We Are Doing Hard Things!
We have had a fantastic first week of school at New Prospect! Although the word “glitch” has become a bad word around here. The teachers, your kids and you have persevered and I am so proud of the relationships that have been built, the patience that has been exemplified and the fact that we all made it to Friday!
This week, I had the privilege of joining most of the classes to continue my tradition of reading a book in the first weeks of school. I have a few classes left on Monday of next week. Although it was different, it was great to see the kids and get to read them this most fitting story called, I Can Do Hard Things by Gabi Garcia.
The book states some very important affirmations like “I can try again, rather than give up.”, “I can listen to understand different points of view.” “Hard things can be about what we think, feel, say, or do.”, “What’s hard for me may not be hard for you.” And “I grow braver and stronger every day.”
We then shared some hard things that we overcame either this summer or this week…. Microsoft Teams came up often. Please ask your students about the story and help them affirm that they can do this, and you can too! Our positive, growth mindset is KEY in getting through this different, challenging time.

There will be no Panther Press next week. We will be moving back to communicating every other Tuesday starting on September 1st, with Panther Press. The PTA will be sending emails on the off weeks. If something is urgent, it will be sent that day, but the newsletter will be back to bi-monthly on Tuesdays.

Trying to help....but.....
Now that we will moving into more content instruction next week, it is VERY important that the students are the ones engaging in the virtual classroom and not the parents. There have been instances where parents, while watching the instruction, inject themselves into the classroom. This is not appropriate - the teacher is in charge, and your student will not get the most out of the instruction if they are not the ones who own the learning. There have been instances where parents attempt to complete their child’s work, answer questions for their child or have a conversation with the teacher during a lesson. Although we know you are trying to help, please refrain from these actions. If you have a question, please email the teacher and be patient while waiting for a response.

Welcome back Panther Parents!
We are excited to share that this year all New Prospect students will learn and practice “Student Success Skills” using a program called ReThink Ed. This is a research-based social emotional learning program that teachers and students will use to cover standards relating to managing emotions, building healthy relationships, understanding others, coping skills, and responsibility. Teachers will highlight a different skill each week during morning meeting, and students will practice them using fun activities.
