MARINER MEMO
06/13-06/17/2022
PRINCIPAL'S NOTE
Dear Sehome Community,
This will be the final Mariner Memo for the 2021-22 school year. Saturday, we had a beautiful day to celebrate the class of 2022. I am so thankful for each of our school and district staff members who helped to make the ceremony a success. For seniors who did not return their gown or pick up their diploma, please bring your gown and stole to school and we will give you your diploma. A reminder that all seniors should not attend classes or come on campus this week unless they have special permission to do so.
This week, we will have one lunch this week. Thursday, we have an alternate schedule due to collecting computers from all students. Friday, we have all 8 periods and an early release. Please be sure to review each of the schedules below.
Please look around the house for any textbooks, library books, uniforms, laptops, chargers, and bags and return all items to Sehome before Friday.
We have free yearbooks for every student who wants one. Please see Ms. Tucker in room 266, or if you are a senior or full-time running start please sign in at main office and see Ms. Moran in the ASB office to get a yearbook.
Please reach out with any questions, comments, or feedback. I hope you all have a great summer! Thanks for making it such a great year.
Sonia Cole
Principal

2022-23 SCHOOL YEAR CALENDAR
Sehome’s Peer Centered Outreach Club is excited to share “Let’s Talk About IT!”
In February PCO hosted an informational event for parents and guardians. Topics included Mental Health, Substance Use, Gender Identity/Pronouns, Healthy Relationships, and Sexual Health. We had guests from DVSAS, Students for Sensible Drug Policy, Teen Council and more helping create the content for this event. There were many requests from families who could not attend to have the content shared. Here are the slides we created with student voices sharing important information that impacts all students. We hope you enjoy the slides.
3 - SUMMER ACTIVITIES
ONLINE COURSES FOR SUMMER SCHOOL
Students in Bellingham Public Schools who will be in grades 9-12 in fall 2022 may take free online courses for summer school using the Edgenuity platform for credit retrieval or credit ahead.
Please note: students entering ninth grade are limited to Computer Applications and Health for credit ahead.
Summer school courses are accelerated, completing an 18-week class in a compressed 6-week time frame. For this reason, although the coursework is completed online, students need to attend in person at Options High School Monday through Thursday from June 27 to August 4, 2022. This ensures they have quick access to academic and/or technical help.
For more information about high school summer school through Edgenuity, please see the summer 2022 registration form. If you have additional questions, please contact your high school counselor or secondary summer school principal Ronni Weston via email or at 360-647-6871.
GET REGISTERED FOR SPORTS PLUS SPORTS PHYSICALS
- Families and students can get connected with middle school and high school sports for next year on finalforms now. Most families received email communication about this through school messenger, but a number of our emails don’t work and a few students who haven't been assigned a school next year didn’t hear about registering for sports/clubs for next year. Please share this information with families:
- Sign up for athletics and activities for the 2022-2023 school year now!
- To get signed up and learn more, head to our school's activity and athletics site: https://sehome.bellinghamschools.org/activities/
- If your student is interested in participating, sign up now to learn about camps, workouts, and connection opportunities over the summer.
- All students interested in participating in a sport, need a valid sports physical. Make an appointment with your primary care provider for a well child check, and ask for a sports physical to ensure your student athlete can start right away next year.

9 - EMERGENCY AND WEATHER PROCEDURES
Emergency and Weather Procedures
It’s that time of year to think about snow and our procedures and impact of weather-related school cancellations.
Depending on conditions (which could include snow, flooding, power outages, etc.), school could:
- close for the day (in the case of widespread power outages),
- open two hours late with regular bus routes or snow bus routes,
- open on time with snow bus routes.
How can I get weather/emergency information?
Changes to the school schedule are usually announced by 6 a.m., and we use a variety of methods to keep families informed:
- Sign up for alerts: To receive email, phone, and/or text alerts, set your communication preferences on the Skylert tab within Skyward Family Access. (Need help? go here for step-by-step directions or contact 360-676-6520.)
- Tune to local media: 790 AM, 96.5 FM, 104.1 FM or Seattle media.
- Check bellinghamschools.org

- Call 360-676-6400 for a recorded message.
- Call 360-647-6815 for a message translated in Español, русский, tính từ and Punjabi.
