Great Things!
Picture day was awesome! It is so much fun to see all of our little people dressed up and ready to smile!
We had about 14 people complete CPR training this past week!
What an amazingly giving staff we have at HGECC! Our students and their families are going to be so excited about the back snacks that will be coming home. Thank you all so much for donating and participating in this!
Sydney finally got a bulletin board and a marker board installed in her room! Woo Hoo!
Happy Birthday to our October Birthday students!!
Challenge: Take Responsibility: (taken from CD website)
- It’s important to be in touch with and own your feelings, or you will try to take on and manage the feelings of others. Practice noticing and naming your feelings. This builds your awareness of what you think, feel, and need.
- Once you can notice and name your feelings, you can regulate your inner speech and calm yourself in moments of upset. This process is helpful in setting boundaries without being overwhelmed by worries or fear of how others will react.
Are you willing? **See Conscious Commitment below

Nuts-n-Bolts:
*Announcements are uploaded and ready to go-featuring Shandi's p.m. kids this week. (next week: Magen's a.m. class)
*Play Area in Big Gym: There is an area set up in the big gym for our friends in chairs to access during recess. The area has mats and special toys that are only for those friends to use. Please help all of our other children to be respectful and understanding of the space- by keeping them off of the mats and away from any toys that are located within this space. Ms. Kim and Mr. Gooden work hard to keep the mats and toys clean for those particular friends since they lay down in that space. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
*Please make sure you have your work ID/badges on at all times
*Trunk or Treat is coming up quickly! Please plan to have your car pulled in and ready to go by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. We will pull the gate shut at 5:00 p.m. so that we can tie up any loose ends before we start. Thank you to those that have already donated candy for kids too!
If you haven't donated, and still wish to do so- there is still time!
*There is a sign up sheet on my window, outside my office if you would be willing to help with a job at our Oct 18 PD in the afternoon
*Websites were due to be updated by end of the day Friday, October 11. Please email me if you have not already done so to let me know this is complete. I have heard from 6 out of 15 people/groups that this is done.
*October book shelving duty: Annie
Speech and Language Tip of the Week:
Play a memory game this week. You can place some items on the floor or table, cover them up, then take one away. See if your kids can identify which one is missing. Try again and this time take two things away. Try again and take three things away! Be creative. The goal is to work on visual memory and the vocabulary involved with the items you are using.
Fine Motor Tip of the Week:
Ideas to help kids cut on a line
- Draw a wide, straight line across a small piece of paper and place a sticker at the top. Have your student cut forward towards the sticker. Can place a sticker on their thumbnail to remind them to hold scissors in thumb up position.
- Place colored tape in a straight line across paper. Draw dotted line along the tape line to make a “road”. Pace tape on their thumbnail that is a “car”. Have your student cut forward on the tape.
- Make a maze of colored tape lines that are angled or zig zag on a piece of stiff paper like cardstock. Have your student cut along the tape lines. Can then make a puzzle game out of the cut pieces.
