Magnesium was discovered by Joseph Black, the name originated from Magnesia, Greece. Its symbol is Mg and its normal phase is a solid. It has an Atomic Number of 12 and an Atomic Mass of 24.305. It has 12 Protons , Electrons , and Neutrons. Magnesium has a melting point of 650'C and a boiling point of 1090'C. It is classified as a metal and is in the Alkali Earth family.

In the Year 2011 China had the highest production rate. Magnesium is used in fireworks, bicycle pedals, and brake mounts. It is highly flammable and is very dangerous.
