Principal's Message
Students are 100 and 101 days smarter at AEEC! To celebrate this milestone of surpassing the halfway mark of the school year, students participated in learning activities and dressed up as if they were 100 years old and 101 Dalmatians. They were so dog-gone cute!
We are so excited to share that our Multicultural Fair will take place on February 1, 2024 from 5:30-7pm. Our Book Fair will also be open during this event. This will be a day for uniting our communities. Bringing communities together to experience diverse perspectives will enhance awareness and critical thinking about social issues such as cultural differences, customs, and traditions. It is our hope and mission to educate and unite various international communities. Each participant will have a table to showcase their family history/country. Participants are encouraged to wear traditional dress, share food, clothing, music, crafts, and more. We have partnered with Good Karma and Mr. Mori's food trucks so that families may grab dinner before leaving. We look forward to another successful event!
This is the time of year where we look very closely at students who may be considered chronically absent or tardy. Chronic absenteeism is 18 days or more per year, excused and/or unexcused. As much research shows, a large amount of missed days can have a large impact on a child's education in a variety of ways. Thank you for continuing to be mindful of attendance and ensuring your child is present and on time at school unless there is an excused reason per ACS policy.
As always, thank you for your support and partnership!
Much appreciation,
Glori Lammons

Vocabulary
Vocabulary learning is all about the words we need to know to both understand what we hear and read and to communicate clearly and precisely. Vocabulary plays an important part in learning to read. Beginning readers must use the words they hear orally to make sense of the words they see in print. Kids who hear more words spoken at home learn more words and enter school with better vocabularies. This larger vocabulary pays off exponentially as a child progresses through school. Children learn the meanings of most words indirectly through everyday experiences with oral and written language. Other words are learned through instruction. Take a moment to explore this article for ideas on how you can help increase your child’s vocabulary!

We hope the groundhog does not see his shadow so that we can all get some sunshine sooner! It has been a rainy winter. That being said, please ensure your student has a change of clothes in their backpack or classroom in case they get into mud at recess, spills, or accidents! Also, please be aware that ACS medication guidelines do not permit medications to be sent to school with your student or given to a school employee. All medicines must be brought by a parent/guardian and checked in with a nurse. Please see the ACS medication guidelines below or contact the school for any clarification.
With well wishes- Nurse Haley

We are wrapping up our artwork for our last fundraiser. The pieces look awesome! I can’t wait for you to see them. I will send out a link in March for you to view your child’s artwork. In kindergarten, we will be creating collages and printmaking with the Three Little Pigs. In first grade, we will learn about pandas and printmaking and explore different painting techniques. Second graders will learn about the graffiti artist, Keith Haring and create simple images in his style.

February 15th is School Resource Officer Appreciation Day! We are so thankful for Officer Goodwin who protects and serves our school each day. February 22nd is Bus Driver Appreciation Day! Getting our students to and from school safely each day is an essential part of our educational system and it wouldn’t happen without our bus drivers! They are amazing! Help us celebrate Officer Goodwin and our bus drivers on these days by sending a thank you note or token of appreciation if you are able! PTO plans to provide special treats for them as well.
We will also be providing teachers with a duty free lunch on February 28th. They can enjoy a quiet lunch outside of the classroom. Save this date because it is also our Restaurant Spirit Night! This month we will be working with Amsterdam Café at the new Moore’s Mill location. Stop by anytime on February 28th for lunch or dinner! 10% of all sales will be donated to AEEC!
Looking forward to a fun February! Thanks for your support of AEEC PTO.
