Message from the Principal
Dear Parents,
We have now reached the half way point of our e-learning for this academic year and I am so delighted with the attendance and participation rate of the children. Over 90% is a figure that we should be proud of. Huge thanks to you as parents for keeping the children motivated and on task. I know that it hasn’t been easy for some families, especially if you are working or away from home.
As the Principal I feel very blessed that we have come together as a community to support each other and do our very best for the children: teachers and parents, you are incredible! Thank you for your hard work and resilience.
Very well done to our children too and let’s strive to keep our participation rate in the 90% until the end of the academic year.
Miss Barbara
Principal
FS1
This week in FS1 we have been learning about estimation and have been practicing making our best guess when looking at a group of objects for 3 seconds. We understand that a guess can sometimes be wrong and we have to check the answer by counting. Our sound of the week this week was ‘t’, we have been learning how to form the letter with our finger and handwrite it using a pencil correctly. This week we have also been learning about light and dark. We have looked at different light sources and have made our own animal shadows using our hands. We are going to be making our own Ramadan lanterns and the FS1 teachers are looking forward to seeing your designs. Well done for your continued fantastic efforts Nursery. Check out Khaled's awesome shadow puppet theater he made!
FS2
It's been another week of fun and engaged learning in FS2. We have continued with the topic of Superheroes, and the children have produced some fantastic pieces of work in all areas. The children were very creative in designing Superhero Fruit Treats, which they were then able to write up; they amazed us with their ee sheep in phonics, and in Maths they were able to count in 2s, 5s and 10s, as well as exploring positional language. Check out Majed counting in 2's, what a super star!
Year 1
In Year 1 this week, in preparation for our virtual trip to the zoo, the children have been looking at how to look after animals who are sick. We compared the differences between vets and doctors and many children have told us why they would like to be a vet. In Maths we have identified how many tens and ones are in one and two digit numbers, the numbers and spellings of them. 'Reading Eggs' has been the highlight of English this week, children were over the moon when given games to play! Little do they know, they're actually learning.
Year 2
Ms. Siobhan and Ms. Katie are so proud of all of the children in Year 2. It is great to see all of the children listening and concentrating during the live lessons. In English, we focused on adding 'ly' to the end of a word to make it an adverb, the children were up for the challenge with many of them giving examples during our Google Meet lessons. In Maths, we introduced tally charts and Venn diagrams, the children enjoyed creating a Venn diagram at home with the help of a parent or sibling. We have seen some amazing Humanities projects this week, the children were asked to create a poster to encourage people to stop throwing litter/plastic in the ocean and to show the effect plastic has on sea creatures. A huge well done to all of the children in Year 2!
Year 3
In Maths this week, Year 3 studied how to find fractions in a set of objects and/or numbers.
In English, Year 3 reviewed how to identify Adverbs in sentences and also looked at changing the Present Tense to the Past Tense in their writing. Year 3 analysed how to identify and explain the three main functions of the skeleton and muscles in the body in Science.
Students read an excert on Ibn Battuta and used their knowledge to complete an Ibn Battuta Fact File in Humanities, well done for another hugely successful week of e-learning Y3.
Year 4
In Year 4 this week we continued to work on creating our own stories for English. Many of the students have been acting out their own scenes from stories using puppets.
The boys and girls in Year 4 have been working hard on a new topic in Maths multiplying 3 digits by 1, well done everyone!
Year 5
In Year 5 we have been learning about sustainability and linking this with the world around us. The students have been thinking about current affairs and finding out facts about the Coronavirus and how it has affected the World, the UAE and them personally.
In English, students shared how life has changed since we started E-Learning and what they are most looking forward to when life goes back to normal. We received super newspaper articles all about the Coronavirus and how it has impacted on their lives. In Maths, we have been learning all about perimeter and how to work out how to find the missing lengths of composite shapes. In Science we have been learning about collecting data and how we can present this data. Year 5 collected data about their family or friends and used this to create some fantastic bar charts. Another successful week of learning and our students still continue to amaze us on their resilience and commitment to their learning. We are also very thankful for the support they continue to receive at home. Well done everyone!
Year 6
Year 6 have had another exciting week. In English we have been learning how to write a mystery story, with a focus this week on setting descriptions. We have studied many types of language, and looked at using similes in our writing to make it interesting.
In Humanities the students have been finding the meanings behind the flags of the UAE, USA and UK. They have done lots of great research, and have expressed their creativity by creating flags using recycled materials.
