Notes from the Principal
Dear West Family,
Welcome to November! We are excited to welcome in the fall. With the change in seasons, please remember to check the weather forecast each day. Our goal is to get outside each day. With that intent we want our students to be dressed appropriately. Please see the newsletter under “Important Reminders” for the guidelines.
Lost and Found:
We already have a number of items in our lost and found, please make sure your child is checking to see if they are missing anything. If you would like to come into school and check please feel free. We will gather all up and donate over Thanksgiving break.
Extra Curricular Activities:
As you will see in our newsletter, there are a number of activities to sign up for. We still have a number of openings in some of our BASE programs which begin in just a couple of weeks. So make sure to check your schedules to see if these work out for your children.
PTC:
Thank you to our amazing PTC- for running the school store and popcorn day today!
Please make sure to read through the newsletter for all of the important information going on at West. Have a great weekend!
West is…
Best,
Tony
Nurse's Corner
- Please remember that you cannot send medicine to school with a student, regardless of it is OTC or prescription. A Northview permission form for medication at school must be filled out before office staff can give it to the student.
- A fever is a temperature greater than 100.4F (according to the CDC). Do not send your child to school for 24 hours after the fever has broken and without the use of fever-reducing medication. A low grade fever is 99.0 - 100.3F. If your child is not feeling well enough to attend school, please keep them home.
- Although lice is not a communicable disease, it can be a nuance. As a parent, it is your responsibility to check and remove lice and nits from your child's hair. Please click here for the KCHD fact sheet.
- For the younger children, it is a great idea to keep an extra pair of underwear and pants in a ziploc bag in the bottom of their backpack (accidents happen).
- Continue to practice good hand and cough hygiene with your children.

Winter 1 BASE Classes
**Special BASE Notes**
BASE Transportation ALERT: Due to staffing within our transportation department, we are no longer able to offer transportation for the BASE program. Please arrange for your child to be picked up at the time of their class dismissal.
Special circumstances: If your child has any special needs or dietary concerns please be sure to let your building coordinator know as soon as you register so any necessary arrangement can be made.
DHHS students please use this link to request an interpreter.
Photographing students: We will use pictures of registrants in our publications. If you prefer your student is not photographed, please email jvanslooten@nvps.net with that request prior to your child's class starting.
Late Pick-ups Policy: Thank you for your promptness in picking up your child at the time their class concludes. When late pick ups occur it can be difficult for our coordinators and instructors to stay late. For this reason we have had to instill the following policy for late pick ups.
- One late pick up - Students will receive a "pass"....We realize parents have busy lives and may run late from time to time.
- Two late pickups - Removal from the class roster. Students may sign up for another session later in the year.
A Mindful Moment
What a joy it has been to be out in classrooms for lessons this month! So exciting to meet a new group of students and see familiar faces, taller and more mature. This month, we’re working to notice the similarities and differences among the people in our lives and to treat others with acceptance. We’re also starting to add breathing strategies to our toolbox. Ask your student to teach you their favorite breath at home! Look for more resources and activities available in your building during conferences. If you haven’t checked out the available online resources, please visit the Northview Mindfulness and SEL website!
Sending you calm,
Mrs. Eyestone
