National Hispanic Heritage Month (Action Required)

Librarian Appraisal Role: Program Administrator - Advocacy & Outreach

National Hispanic Heritage Month, recognized annually from September 15 - October 15, celebrates Hispanic history, culture, and the contributions of Hispanic Americans whose families came from Spain, Mexico, Central and South America, and the Caribbean.

This year’s theme is “Honoring our Heritage--Building our Future”

Add a link or create a new page/tab and redirect (redirect video directions) to the updated Hispanic Heritage Month Resources on the Library LibGuide by September 15, 2015. This guide needs to be accessible on all NEISD Library Welcome LibGuides from September 15 - October 15.


Discovery Education Logins (Action Required)

Librarian Appraisal Role: Program Administrator - Advocacy & Outreach

Library Services shared updated Discovery Education logins with all campus librarians via email last week. Login information is also available on the Digital Resources Spotlight LibGuide (see "Account Information for Librarians"). The “Info. for Home Access” box on the campus Library Resources page has been revised to reflect the new logins. Please share this information with campus staff.

Librarian Appraisal Role: Teacher - Reading Promotion

DIIP Goal 7-1: Increase use of OverDrive digital content

The purpose of Read an eBook Day is to celebrate digital reading as a great way to connect readers with their libraries and authors they love. Libraries and users alike are encouraged to share what they’re reading and how they are celebrating on social media and join the #eBookLove conversation. You can also send users to for reading recommendations based on their favorite genres.

To help spread the word and get your community excited about your digital library find the quick promotional ideas for you to use:

  • Put a link to your digital collection prominently on your library website (We have provided 3 graphics you can use here, here and here).

  • Use these marketing materials to promote both inside and outside your community

Smore Library Subscriptions (Action Required)

Smore has recently begun offering district level subscriptions. Library Services will fund subscriptions for all libraries to this versatile communication tool. If the library is currently subscribed, please indicate that in the Google form linked below.

AASL Survey - Standards

Librarian Appraisal Role: Campus Leader - Professional Knowledge & Skills

The American Association of School Librarians (AASL) is currently in the process of evaluating and revising its learning standards and program guidelines.

By participating in this newly launched survey built to assess attitudes and perceptions about the current AASL standards and guidelines documents, you can have a hand in creating the future standards of the profession.Topics covered in the 20-minute survey include content, usability and implementation.

The survey is open to all school library professionals. Please share as widely as possible to help ensure the standards meet the needs of the entire community. (original posting from AASL)


Reminders & Updates

Inventory Schedule - Libraries with even numbered org #'s

Libraries with even numbered org #'s will be inventoried this school year. Please schedule the inventory dates by Friday, Sept. 11th. The Inventory Schedule is located on the SirsiDynix Tab of the Procedure Manual. Inventory must be concluded before April 30th, and should not exceed a period of ten days.


Hospitality Fund Donation ($10)

Library Services is still accepting donations for the Librarians’ Hospitality Fund. These funds are used to purchase gift cards, cards and to make charitable donations in honor of close family members who have passed. The monies are also used to fund the Librarians’ End of Year Celebration. Please send your cash or check to Mary Beth at Library Services.


Makerbot info is on the Procedure Manual. Be sure to register the Makerbot online. Access to download Makerbot in the Classroom, a 144-page book with basics of 3D printing and design as well as ideas, projects and activities for integrating 3D printers in the curriculum will be provided with registration.


CRMS Reminders

Send all requests for Pickup Withdrawn Library Materials forms to Mary Beth.

This form is available on the Procedure Manual.

The requests will be entered into the CRMS system for disposal.


  • Each request is limited to 10 boxes

  • Once 10 boxes have been picked up, another request may be entered

  • Books and other library materials (DVDs, CDs, etc) must be boxed separately

  • The content of boxes that contain materials other than books must be clearly marked


Don't forget to check the September Timeline in the Procedure Manual.


Movie Licensing (Action Required)

Just a reminder...all Movie Licensing order forms are due to Mary Beth by Tuesday, Sept. 15. Additional information regarding Movie Licensing is available on the Copyright Corner LibGuide.
