Mrs. Givens 4th Grade

A Digital Newsletter to Keep you in the Loop

Welcome to October!

The air is getting brisk and the leaves will be changing soon. I love this time of year and in 4th grade we continue to work hard and become better students every day! October also brings the end of the 1st quarter, Red Ribbon Week and parent/teacher conferences. Exciting times!

Week in Review - Oct. 5-9 and Upcoming Events

"Show respect even to people who don't deserve it; not as a reflection of their character, but as a reflection of yours.” - Dave Willis

What's Happening by Patience, New Director

In Social Studies we learned about the Cahokia Tribe. Most days we win the morning as the best class but we haven't been winning it lately. Fifth grade is in the lead but we can still beat them!

We had an exciting week - the students are all diving into their fiction "spooky" books for reading groups and love them! Ask your child what their book is about so far. On Thursday we were visited by Firefighters from Springfield who told us about Smoke Detectors, Escape Plans and Meeting Places. They also gave us a cool book to bring home AND a form that if a parent fills out they have a chance to win a Ride To School in a Firetruck!

Today we were entertained by a mariachi band from Mexico as part of the Sister Cities Association. The kids loved it! See the video below!
