Jaguar Corner

Hello Jaguars!

  • Since 1949, May has been Mental Health Awareness month. As a society and culture, we are making strides in addressing mental health wellness. However, we still have much work to do. LSR7 has mental health wellness information available on their website. If your student has a cell phone, or it's in the works for your child to get a phone, plan to have a conversation with him/her about the types of communication that may occur on the phone. If a friend makes a comment through a text message service/Snapchat that mentions self harm, please stress to your child that an adult needs to be made aware. Even if the student thinks his/her friend is "kidding", an adult should be included in the conversation. More often than not, our kids are reaching out to one another through social media and asking for help. Generally speaking, they are not reaching out to an adult. Let's partner together to coach our kids to stand up for one another. This is not called snitching. This is called saving a life. Our kids are smart. They understand the difference. As adults, we can empower our children to find their voice and care for one another. Here is additional information that may be helpful.
  • Congratulations to 5th grade teacher, Mrs. Francie Martin, on her upcoming retirement from public education! LSR7 held a nice reception for all of the district R7 retirees on Tuesday evening at the Missouri Innovation Campus. Thank you for your service to the students, families and staff of SVE!!

SVE Teacher Appreciation Week!

Lee's Summit Educational Foundation PEAK GRANTS!! Mrs. Freeborn

Mrs. Freeborn received a PEAK grant for $1,070 to purchase 30 resonator bell sets! This is enough for an entire classroom to be able to explore melodies at the same time! Our kids are SO excited to be able to play together and make music as one large group! A huge thank you to the kids and families that participate in the Race for the Future and selling Major Saver cards- these fundraisers make these opportunities possible for our kids!

Lee's Summit Educational Foundation PEAK Grants!!! Mrs. Shortino

Mrs. Shortino's PEAK grant was for an outdoor learning classroom. It will have two large chairs, a chalk board, white board and Plexiglas stations. It will be located out in front of the building in the kindergarten playground but open to all teachers and students to use. This picture is a model of what our setup will look like.

Box Tops Going Digital....Say What ?!?!?!?

Here is new information that just came out on Box Tops for Education!! Thank you to wonderful SVE parent, Mrs. Lauren Peter, for volunteering to help SVE with Box Tops for Education! We appreciate you!

At its core, the program structure and purpose remain the same – to help schools get what they need. The main difference is how you’ll earn – instead of clipping, all Box Tops will be earned digitally via receipt scan.

You’ll now download the new and improved, user-friendly Box Tops app, register and select a school, and then scan an eligible receipt containing Box Tops products. You’ll earn 10 cents for each Box Tops product purchased plus extra earnings for any Bonus Box Tops opportunities. The app will automatically add Box Tops to your school’s earnings online, giving visibility to see how you are supporting your school in real-time.
