Swansboro Elementary
February 21, 2021
Thanks for another fabulous week at Swansboro Elementary!
Our students and staff have been working hard and we continue to see their efforts pay off. Many places throughout the nation are seeing significant learning loss due to the lack of in person instruction, but here at SBES, we are continuing to making student learning a top priority and our students are making great progress! We are excited to have the opportunity for face-to-face instruction four days a week and remote instruction on Wednesdays. In order to continue to provide face-to-face instruction, we will need your help to make sure that if students are not feeling well, they are kept at home. If your child or anyone in your home has a fever or is experiencing any Covid symptoms, please reach out to Nurse Mollie Sammons. Doing so not only protects your child, but it also helps to minimize the impact on others. Please keep in mind that when students are absent for any reason, they will need to complete any missed assignments. Failure to do so will negatively impact student learning and grades. We know that at the elementary level we rely heavily on parents to ensure that students are completing work outside of school, so we are extremely grateful for your hard work and support!
Tuesday is Pizza Hut Spirit Night from 4:00-8:00 pm. Please leave your receipt and portion of your purchase will be donated to our school. Every little bit helps! Also on Tuesday, OCS will be hosting a virtual meeting for anyone that would like to become a teacher. Checkout the details in the flier (below).
The first week of March is Read Across America Week! In previous years, this is also the time that we do our Read-a-thon fundraiser. Due to current situations, we have decided that we will not have our Read-a-thon this year. We know that the pandemic has created financial burdens on many families and businesses. We do not want to add any additional burden. We hope to resume with this fundraiser next year. We will however be celebrating Read Across America Week with reading activities, guest virtual readers, and student dress up days. If you are interested in becoming a virtual guest reader, please contact our media specialist, Meredith Lynch (meredith.lynch@onslow.k12.nc.us). Check out our dress up days in the flier below to start planning your Read Across America Week costumes!

Note from Nurse Sammons:
If you OR your child has a fever of over 100, a new cough, shortness of breath, loss of taste or smell or you are being quarantined per medical advice or are being Covid tested per medical request PLEASE email the Nurse or call the school. We must clear your child per OCS protocol before they return on the bus or return to in person school. Nurse Sammons email is Mollie.Sammons@onslow.k12.nc.us. For more information, please check out Nurse Sammons' webpage on our school's website.
Covid close contacts
When a student tests positive for Covid-19, we conduct contact tracing and all students that are identified as a close contact (within 6 ft of the positive person for more than 15 minutes) receive a personal phone call from the school nurse or principal to inform the parent that their child has been identified as a close contact and are required to quarantine for 14 days from date of potential exposure. This is in accordance with OCS policy and the Strong Schools NC Public Health Toolkit.
