Stinson's Weekly Update

Week of 10/12 - 10/16

Change is Coming

I hope that your student has enjoyed the last quarter with me. We have learned so many amazing things and have had a great time of getting to know each other, but unfortunately it is time for a change. I will be returning to the classroom on October 20th to teach a face-to-face fifth grade class. I wanted to make everyone aware that this week will be our last week together.

As you know, your student will either be moving to Mrs. Leonard's remote class, or will be returning to school full time in my classroom. I am excited for the change, but also will miss the relationships we have made together.

This change is tough on all hearts involved. I realize how routine and normalcy is so important for students in this uncertain time. However; this too will pass. I appreciate your flexibility, honesty, and support during this transitional period. I will always be available to help your student, regardless where they are learning. Please feel free to contact me no matter what!

Soil & Water Poster - Due Oct. 30th

I have shared numerous resources on our Google Classroom page for your student to begin working on their Soil & Water poster. This assignment is MANDATORY for all fifth grade students in our county - regardless of remote or in person learning status.

Contact me if you have any questions regarding this assignment.

Transition to Plan A

Beginning on October 20, 2020, kindergarten through 5th grade students in Wilkes County Schools will be allowed to return to full-time school attendance where children attend school Monday-Friday. We will continue to offer remote learning to families who request it.

Wilkesboro Elementary is asking all families to choose either IN PERSON (attend school every day) or REMOTE (learn remotely from home) instruction for their child. This choice is a commitment through the end of the second grading period which ends January 14, 2021. This choice will begin on Tuesday, October 20. We are sharing some information about this transition.

Please visit this website to read info about the transition to Plan A.

We realize there are many things for your family to consider when making this choice. We are here to help. If you have questions, please reach out to Beckie Spears or Carol Cleary at 336-838-4261.

***It is imperative you complete this form so we can best plan for our future as a class!!!***

Daily Reading Groups @ 8:30

Please be on the lookout for Reading Groups on Google Classroom. I am working on a schedule so you can know exactly when your student's reading group will be, but for now I will post it on Google Classroom at 8:00am before groups start at 8:30am.

Specials This Week (10/12 - 10/6)

We will have specials on only on B days! This week we have:

(This week is a little wonky)

Monday - Media - Live Zoom at 2:00

Thursday - Art - Live Zoom at 2:00

I will share them on Google Classroom each day!

You can complete your specials during the 10:15 - 10:45 break, or at 2:00. We realize this is after the school day ends for remote learners.

What We're Learning This Week:

Reading: I will... be able to use what I have learned so far in 5th grade and apply it to the analysis of Old Yeller. (I plan to finish the book this week!)

Math: I able to apply the formula L x W x H to rectangular prisms to find the volume, and to find the volume of irregular shapes.

Science: I will... be able to identify organs from each body system and understand their functions.

All of your assignments are posted in Google Classroom and will be ready at 8:00am each day!

Students can get on Zoom via a variety of ways.

1. Go through Clever and Click T. Stinson's Page with my picture and find the Zoom link there.

2. Go through the link on Google Classroom.

3. Use the link on Dojo.

Check Google Classroom or Dojo for our Zoom password.

*** If you miss the Zoom, you can always go back and watch it on Google Classroom. All Zoom's are recorded ***

What To Expect

Your student is expected to be active and engaged with their school work from 8:15am - 1:15pm. We will have a daily morning check-in and this will count as their attendance as well as Zoom engagement, and assignment completion. It is important to keep your student on a schedule as we transition throughout each phase of virtual and in-person learning.

Google Classroom

Google Classroom is a HUGE part of our learning process. It is important that you get your student's account joined in our classroom. Our join code is: ofidt7f.

When your student gets joined, I will link your email to your student's account and you will get weekly emails about your student's progress, grades, and missing assignments. This is a great way for us to stay connected about grades.

Your student's daily assignments will become live on Google Classroom every morning at 8:00am.

Office Hours

We will be working synchronously (together as a class) and asynchronously (separate as individuals) between the hours of 8:15-1:15. If you reach out to me during those times, I will do my best to respond ASAP. I have scheduled Office Hours between 1:30- 2:30 so I will return all contact during this time! If you are not able to talk during that time; no worries! We will make it work!
