English 9 Crash Course
A Paragraph of Introduction
Hi, my name is Nathan Kraus. I am now in 10th grade, but one year ago I sat are sitting now. A lot of you are probably nervous for the year to come, however you have no reason to be. English 9 is a lot of fun and you get to learn a lot. Over the next several months you will travel all the way from Harlem, New York, to Ancient Greece and the Trojan War
Short Stories Preview
One unit you will go over is short stories. This is one of my favorites because of the variety of stories you get to read. There's books that make you think like "The Lady of the Tiger", and there's ones that keep your heart racing until the very end like "The Most Dangerous Game".
The Hunger Games
Although short stories is fun, this unit was my favorite by far. When you study the Hunger Games, Mrs. Allen really does everything she can to take you to Panem. Things like competing in district challenges, and being assigned your very own district is what makes this unit the best.
Romeo and Juliet
During the course of reading Shakespeare's famous play, "Romeo and Juliet", you will learn a variety of things. You will go into detail about Shakespeare and Shakespearean England. You will observe the movie versions, and read the actual play in detail. This is a unit were you might be hesitant going into, but will come to realize that it's a great experience.
The Odyssey
Next to the Hunger Games, this is my favorite unit. The Odyssey is a great unit because not only do you get to watch the movie Troy, but you also get a big look at Ancient Greece and the background of Homer. You might think that since it was written so long ago it might be hard to understand, but you read an edited version that puts it into easy to learn terms.
My Favorite
What i liked the best about English 9 was the Hunger Games. Mrs. Allen does a great job by making it fun. She also lets you view the movie version.
Not So Favorite
My least favorite part about English 9 was the poetry unit. I think it's just me personally because i don't like poetry because it actually seems to be a unit that people enjoy.
Advice
