Brookwood's Monthly Newsletter
March 2023, Joyful Teaching! Joyful Learning!
From the Desk of the Principal . . . Jacqueline Cubberly
I hope this newsletter finds you well.
March is a busy month at Brookwood.
Check out our "BLUE MONTH CALENDAR" on our Brookwood website.
Also see our UPCOMING EVENTS, at the conclusion of this newletter, that are currently scheduled. As we approach each event, more details will be shared with you.
In April, students will begin to take the Pennsylvania Standardized State Assessments, also known as PSSA. These standardized tests measure the academic progress of students from 3rd grade to 8th grade, and 11th grade in Reading and Math. Additionally, 4th grade students take the Science PSSAs in early May.
What are the positive effects of standardized testing?
PSSA test results provide actionable data that will help parents, teachers, and students improve academic performance in reading, math, writing, and science.
Standardized exams can show student improvement over time by taking the same tests over time. In addition, student test scores can also be easily compared to each other to show changes in progress, helping to ensure that all educational stakeholders are held accountable.
More information will be sent out in early April. Please do not plan vacations or doctor appointments from April 25th - May 5th for students in grade 3, 4 and 5.
Enjoy the warmer weather and create lasting memories with family and friends.
Be safe and well.
Jacqueline Cubberly

The Zones of Regulation
Ms. Gulick's 1st and 2nd grade class
This month, students worked collaboratively to trace life sized figures of themselves and cut them out. We then labeled people, places, and anything that makes us feel happy, important, and in control and how this related to being in the "Green Zone".
The students then shared their projects with the class!

Practicing a "Fire Drill"

Bucks County Intermediate Unit STEM Design Challenge
The students were tasked with researching a climate issue. Once the topic was researched, the teams used the Engineering Design Process to create a prototype of a tool to solve the problem using K'Nex pieces.
One team created a machine to disperse seeds to help stop the issue of deforestation.
The other team created a machine to scoop up and store plastic and waste from our local water systems.
We are proud of all of our "young scientists", led by Mrs. Schrack.
