Raider Update
March 5, 2023
Message from the Superintendent
Good afternoon Raider Families,
A huge shoutout to our wrestling team and coaches, and their state championship! According to Trent Hanson, it was arguably the most dramatic ending in a state championship match, the Raiders pinned their opponents in the final three matches of the night to earn an incredible 33-32 victory. Literally every team point by all 14 wrestlers mattered. A phenomenal team win. This was the fourth state title match appearance in school history (1996, 1998, 2007, 2023) and the 2nd title title (1996). This is the first HHS team state championship since 2011 (softball).
The School Board has approved the final 23-24 school calendar and the 24-25 school calendar. Both can be found on our website here. And, with conferences now complete, we have a full week before spring break. We do not run a Raider Update going into spring break, so I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable time with family and friends.
Bob McDowell, Ed.D.

Rotary Student of the Month: Tyler Wood
On behalf of the Hastings Rotary Club and Hastings High School, congratulations to Tyler Wood for being selected as the January 2023 recipient of the Hastings Rotary “Student of the Month” Award. The Hastings Rotary Club recognizes Hastings High School seniors who exemplify Rotary’s ‘Service Above Self’ motto to reward and foster these ideals and build mutually rewarding relationships between school administration, staff, students, parents, and parents the Rotary members.
His nominators had this to say about Tyler: “Tyler has worked very hard on his academics and has become a leader in his classes. He is kind and supportive of his peers, always follows through with his part of any work, and encourages others to do their best. He used his experience in the Inver Grove Police Explorers program to add depth and meaning to his Criminal Justice class this past semester and was a wonderful resource for his classmates. After graduating, he plans to go to Alexandria Technical & Community College for Law Enforcement.”
Tyler was recognized at the Rotary Club meeting on Thursday, February 16th, 2023.
Paper Grocery Bags Needed!
Hastings Family Service, our local food shelf, is frequently in need of brown paper grocery bags. To help an agency who helps so many of our families and our community, please consider dropping off brown paper bags with your building social worker or Tilden's main office. You can also bring them directly to Hastings Family Service. Thanks!
