School of Saint Mary FYI
September 23, 2021
Notes from Mrs. Maricle
1. MAP Growth Assessment: The NWEA MAP Test (Measures of Academic Progress) is the adaptive achievement and growth test that is replacing Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS). MAP creates a personalized assessment experience by adapting to each student’s learning level—precisely measuring progress and growth for each individual student. If your child correctly answers a question, the computer assessment provides a harder question next. If they miss that same question, then an easier question is asked. This provides essential information about what your child knows and is ready to learn. MAP is given via computer to children in grades 2-8. Its structure is cross-grade, which provides measurement of students who perform on, above, and below grade level. It is multiple choice and provides questions that are depth of knowledge, so that you can see if your child performs at level 1, 2 or 3 of difficulty. The test is untimed, but students generally spend about 60 minutes per subject area. Feedback results are available in 24 hours. The assessment is also given three times a year so teachers and parents can see growth over time. The first testing window is September 28th to October 8th.
Please follow the tips below to prepare your child/ren for the MAP Growth Assessment:
- Get plenty of sleep
- Eat breakfast.
- Do your best- there will be questions you do not know so just use your best guess.
- If you need help, just ask!
2. St Jude Week: Thank you for your support this week! We were able to raise $1,257 on PJ Day for Team Guardians Against Cancer. Don't forget about this Saturday's event....please join us at 8am for an outdoor honor walk around campus at Saint Mary.
COVID-19 Updates
Week of September 20, 2021-
0 NEW student or staff positives (one asymptomatic positive student is still currently quarantined from last week)
2 student in quarantine (positive student and close contact sibling from last week).
*Note: These statistics are for PS-8th Grade.
COVID Testing: The Task Force has given approval for families to use either a PCR Test or a Molecular ID Test to return from quarantine. Saint Francis offers a free drive thru clinic that yields results in 24 hours.
Diocesan Update: Updated/Revised policies have been released. Below is a list of the changes.
The revisions are minor, but include:
- Section 4—“Face Coverings”—now includes a vaccination recommendation reference to Section 7
- Section 7—“Vaccinations”—now includes a sentence that states “Pastors are permitted however, to recommend vaccination to their community (Section 4).
This last sentence is also in the newly revised Parish and Mass COVID policies released today from the Diocese.
The Spanish translation is being revised and we will share as soon as it’s available.
Grace and Understanding: This is a gentle reminder that we need to be following in our Heavenly Father's footsteps in giving people grace and understanding during these difficult times with COVID. We field so many calls a day asking for guidance to ensure everyone is doing the right thing. Yes, COVID is real and scary, however, we also have students and staff suffering from seasonal allergies, head colds, pink eye, stomach bugs and various other ailments that could present as COVID. So much is unknown so we need to unite as a community to lift each other up each day and trust that each of us are doing their best for our school.
Note: We want families to be our partners in navigating school during a pandemic. If you have COVID comfort concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's homeroom teacher. We are doing our very best to make accommodations as we can.
The School of Saint Mary Health and Wellness Plan for 2021-22 is posted below. We want to remind everyone that we review data often and we are committed to our plan being a evolving document based on trends in our area.
