Hawk Happenings

October 2017

Thank you to our community supporters!

We would like to express our sincere thanks to Brookstone Church for sending volunteers to work on our campus grounds this summer. The volunteers trimmed, weeded, cleaned, planted, mulched and painted to get our school grounds in great shape to welcome back our students, parents, and staff. Their hard work and generosity meant so much to our school!

A special thank you goes to Rodney’s Auto and the folks of Weaverville who dedicated one of their summer Thursday Bike Cruise Nights to the Weaverville Schools. Through Rodney’s efforts and the generosity of community members, each school received $230 for school supplies.

We look forward to working with other churches and community partners in the near future. Thanks to everyone who helps to make Weaverville Elementary a great place to be!

Congratulations to our music teacher, Cynthia Roop for her recognition as our North Buncombe District Teacher of the Year! Watch the video below to learn more about Ms. Roop's passion for educating our children!

WvES Schoolwide WIG (Wildly Important Goal)

Weaverville Elementary has a school-wide goal focused on written response to a text! Staff voted on an outdoor theme to track this data. Fourth graders are kayakers, third graders are mountain bikers and second graders are rock climbers. Check out the pictures below of Mrs. Henderson teaching her class about the 2nd grade data display. We will track schoolwide data near the main lobby, grade level data on the grade level hallways, classroom data in classrooms and individual data in the Student Leadership Notebooks. Grade levels are currently working on their displays and getting baseline data. Readers are Leaders!

Buncombe County Schools provides a FREE BREAKFAST for all students!

Our cafeteria starts serving breakfast at 7:20 AM. This is free to all students! Did you know that if your child does not want to eat breakfast, they could get a bag and save the items for snack later in the day? Your child could also donate their non-perishable items to their classroom teacher for children who do not have a snack. Students who do not choose to eat breakfast before school starts, should save the food (minus the milk) in their bookbags.

Thank you for donating supplies to our two adopted Texas classrooms!

We appreciate your generosity in donating items to the Texas classrooms that our school adopted. You probably received information from Buncombe County Schools regarding another supply collection that is being facilitated by the county. Our school will not participate in this collection since we have already asked for your support and next week we start our Fall PTO Fundraiser. If you feel strongly that you want to contribute to the BCS Hurricane Relief Supply Drive, then please send in your items labeled for this effort and we will ensure it is given to the correct people. Thank you again for your support of our school supply drive - Helping Hawks.

Parent Portal - Your child's data at your fingertips!

Did you know that you can stay up to date with your child's grades and if they are missing any assignments?

PowerSchool is the school district's electronic student information system (SIS).
PowerSchool helps your school access and maintain student, staff, and schedule information. PowerSchool uses the Internet to facilitate student information management and communication among school administrators, teachers, parents, and students.

The PowerSchool Student and Parent portal is a tool that is integrated into the PowerSchool Student Information System (SIS) that is specifically developed for parents and students. The PowerSchool Student and Parent portal gives parents and students access to real-time information including attendance, grades and detailed assignment descriptions, school bulletins, and even personal messages from the teacher. Everyone stays connected: Students stay on top of assignments, parents are able to participate more fully in their student's progress, and teachers can use their grade book to make decisions on what information they want to share with parents and students.

Parent Portal Access Management

Parent Portal Access Management provides parents with the ability to have their own individual parent or guardian account, including user name and password. You must obtain the Parent/Guardian's Access ID and Password letter before you attempt to create a parent portal account. A parent or guardian must request the Parent/Guardian's Access ID and Password letter in person from Mrs. Griffee in the main office. You must create your parent portal account using the appropriate access credentials. Once your account is created, you can manage your account information, link any and all students to your account (for whom you have parental and legal rights to), and set email and notification preferences for each student linked to your account. If you've forgotten your account sign in information, you can retrieve them by using auto-recovery. If you have requested a password change through auto-recovery, you must sign in using the internet, not the mobile app.
