MTLSD COVID Symptoms/Exposure Notification Form - Students
Dear Families,
As we continue to adapt our processes and procedures due to the ever-changing COVID-19 landscape, we have developed a universal COVID Symptoms/Exposure Notification Form for our families to use instead of emailing the school nurse, teacher, or using a building-specific form. This form will assist our nursing staff in responding more efficiently to COVID notifications.
Beginning now, families who have a student with a confirmed positive case of COVID-19, experiencing symptoms, or exposed as a close contact to a confirmed or suspected case, should use this LINK in order to notify your school. The form will also be located on the District website and each school’s homepage.
The COVID-19 environment is rapidly changing, and we continue to monitor developments and make modifications to our plans as necessary. If you have specific questions, please contact your student’s school nurse.
Sincerely,
Deanna Hess, MSEd, BSN, CSN, RN
Chair, Health Services Department

And the Winner Is...2022 Lincoln Spelling Bee
The evening of February 10, 2022, was one filled with excitement and drama during the finals of the 2022 Lincoln PTA Spelling bee. 18 students from Grades 4-5 qualified to show off their spelling skills and our participants did not disappoint! Only one student could prevail, and after going many rounds, the winner of the 2022 Lincoln PTA Spelling Bee was Isla Gentzel. The first runner-up was Ena Rovcanin. Congratulations to all of the spelling bee participants! They did a great job! A special thanks goes out to our three teacher judges - Ms. Brown, Mrs. Higgins and Mrs. O'Shea. They kept us on track and made sure that every participant had a fair chance to spell each word. We also need to thank the Lincoln PTA for sponsoring this wonderful event. Good luck to Isla as she now moves on to the next local Spelling Bee at Robert Morris University on March 12th!
MTLHS Black Student Union 1st Annual Book Drive

Important information
Lincoln Tribute to Mrs. Lewis
The Lincoln Mural Committee, along with the support of our Lincoln PTA, has commissioned an artist to paint a mural in the school to honor Mrs. Debra Lewis who retired 2 years ago after 25 years as a Reading Specialist in our District. The mural will be located in the main floor hallway, and will feature one of Mrs. Lewis’s favorite children’s books, Something from Nothing by Phoebe Gilman.
If you would like to contribute, you may write a check payable to Lincoln Mural Fund and write "Mrs. Lewis's MURAL" on the envelope which your child can give to their teacher or drop off in the office. You may also pay via PayPal to bethannrivera120@gmail.com.
Thank you for your contribution.* This will be a lasting tribute for all to enjoy for many years to come. Feel free to share this information with anyone who you believe would want to contribute. Please email Bethann Rivera with any questions at brivera@mtlsd.net.
(Contributions in excess of what is needed for Mrs. Lewis's mural will be used for future murals honoring Lincoln's retirees.)
Recess Temperature Reminder
As we have entered the season unpredictable and colder weather, I want to remind our students about what they should to wear during outdoor recess. Anytime the temperature dips below 50ºF, students should wear a jacket (of some type) outside. While it is a family decision as to what each student wears to school each day, I would suggest that students not wear shorts on days when temperatures are forecasted to be below 50ºF. Having an extra pair of pants available (left in a student’s locker) is a great way to avoid emotional situations if students wear shorts to school on cold weather days. When the thermometer dips even lower, students must be prepared to wear jackets, hats and gloves during outside recess. We will go outside if the “feels like” temperature is at or above 15 ºF. Students may be permitted on the field even if snow is present. However, snow-style boots are a must for this. We check AccuWeather and The Weather Channel apps for the current local temperature and “feels like” temperature at several times each day.
A Note From The Elementary School Counselors…
As a new semester begins, we humbly recognize National School Counseling Week (2/7-2/11) and the opportunity this district has given us to support all students and their families. This year’s theme is “Better Together”, and we are fortunate that our school communities continue to work together to provide the best support for our students. We also take the opportunity to highlight the kind words and acts of so many as we recognize Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) Week (2/14-2/18) and RAK Day on February 17th. In the words of Maya Angelou, “[We’ve] learned that people will forget what you’ve said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” We are here to help, so please don’t hesitate to reach out if there is something we can do to help your child learn and grow at school.

The homeroom teachers will share all access links with students and their families prior to the start of live streaming.
