KCSD & Me Learning: Packets heading for the mail

March 31, 2020

With the ongoing school closures due to COVID-19, we are rolling out our KCSD & Me Learning Plan. Continue to check our website for the latest updates and information (www.kcsd.k12.or.us). #ProudtobeKCSD

A shout out to all the district staff, administrators, and teachers who have worked non-stop to make our KCSD & Me Learning Plan possible! Elementary and secondary packets will be in the mail on Thursday. Our teachers and all our staff members -- from the warehouse and the print shop to the Henley High School staff who came in today to process and stuff envelopes -- have blown us away with their commitment, work, and dedication. (All staff helping with packets and other projects follow district sanitation and distancing protocols)

To our families: The Oregon Department of Education has issued new guidance, and we expect to provide more information about how the district will meet those guidelines in the coming days. Meanwhile, students should complete their packets so they can maintain their learning and are able to discuss their progress when their teachers call. Families should receive packets by Monday, April 6.

For fun, here are some stats on our Week 1 Packet Project:
• 20 schools
• 13 grades
• 6+ content areas
• 119 unique grade- and school-specific packets created
• 20 principal letters translated to Spanish
• 197,000 pages printed
• 7,000 envelopes stuffed, labeled, and mailed out to our students.
• 7,000 individual calls made to parents by KCSD teaching staff

Thank you!

KCSD & Me: Art with Ms. Smith

We miss our students! Our teachers have lots of fun ideas to keep kids engaged -- and give them a chance to see some familiar and friendly faces. In this video, Jeannie Smith, a fourth-grade teacher at Peterson Elementary School, takes her love of art to students in an online drawing lesson. Find some paper, grab a pencil, and colored pencils or crayons and give it your best shot. When you're finished, take a photo or scan your artwork and send it to us. We'll make an artwork photo album and post it online! Send your finished art to: smithje@kcsd.k12.or.us.
