Marked For Greatness
Harry Potter and his scar
Harry Potter’s scar is a physical mark that shows how Harry will rise to become great. As a physical mark can imply some perfection or imperfection, Harry’s shows a sort of perfection and a destiny to eventually kill You-Know-Who. Harry’s scar is similar to winning a trophy, not in the glory sense, but in the sense that Voldemort singled Harry out as his own demise. The scar symbolically is a reminder for Harry of the man who has taken everything away from him and left him scarred for life and a desire for vengeance. The Lightning shape of his scars serves to show how Harry can be quick to action, and unpredictable at times because of his dangerous connection to the dark lord. This scar is important to Harry's life as it shows how everyone recognizes him, even when he barely knew his true background and how he is that flashing, attention grabbing person in the story: everything revolves around him and people are quick to notice his actions.
Frankenstein: The Creature
In Frankenstein the creature is completely physically deformed to show his hideous nature and the deformity in his actions. The creature performs actions that are illogical and atrocious. His killing of William to get back at Victor for abandoning him, while acceptable as terms for revenge, is illogical as it later factors in when Victor is considering make a companion for the creature. Had the creature shown he could control himself and wasn't hideous in nature, he could have been successful in attaining his companion. The creatures complete deformity also shows how he is unnatural, and not normal like the rest of them. The creature can live in cold, dark places, performs actions that are despicable and is generally evil. His artificial life is unnatural and therefore the deformities show this and his nature are also unnatural.
