Ludwig Ledger
October 2022
Dear Ludwig Parents/Guardians,
As we transition into fall, there's lots happening at Ludwig School! Please take a read through the information below to hear about our different events taking place at school during the next month.
- October is National Bullying Prevention Month -
October is National Bullying Prevention Month. All this month (and all school year long), students will be reminded to stand up against bullying and help create a school environment that is safe, supporting, and accepting. Ludwig's Sunshine Club has created 4th and 5th grade pledge banners for all students and staff to sign, in support of anti-bullying awareness. Don't forget, D92 also offers an anonymous "Tip Line" for families/students to utilize on our D92 website. Together, we can all take a united stand against bullying. To show off our unity, all staff and students are encouraged to wear orange on October 19th for Unity Day.
- Spiritwear Orders -
This year’s Ludwig spiritwear sale ends tomorrow, Friday, October 7th. Please visit this LINK to review clothing options and place your orders.
- Progress reports -
Trimester 1 midterm grades will be available for parents, in PowerSchool, by the end of the school day on Friday, October 7th. Remember, grades are accessible to parents all year long. This is a great opportunity to check in on your child's progress before the trimester ends on Nov. 4th. If you need help setting up your PowerSchool Parent Portal account for the first time, please contact Ludwig's main office.
- Fall Benchmark Data Collection -
Our fall benchmark assessment data has been collected. Teams of teachers have had the ability to review this data and make informed decisions about student programming and instruction. We continue to embrace a growth mindset at Ludwig, for both students and staff. Working side-by-side with our families, we know that we will continue to move the needle on student achievement. If you have any questions about your child's progress, please don't hesitate to contact his/her teacher.
- Halloween Costume Parade / Party / Early Dismissal -
This year, Halloween falls on a Monday. This also coincides with an early dismissal day at Ludwig. Students will be dismissed at 10:55am, so please make arrangements accordingly. That said, students will be able to wear their Halloween costumes to school, should they choose. Weapons, or other inappropriate costume accessories, should remain at home. Also, masks are not to be worn during the school day. Our costume parade will be held at 8:30am. This year's parade will be held indoors, due to construction at Ludwig. Parents may view the costume parade in the Gymnasium. Our main gym doors will open at 8:15am for parents to find a seat on the bleachers and observe the costume parade. Parents will not have access to the rest of the school during the parade. Classroom parties will run from 9am - 10am. We're looking forward to having a spooktacular day!
- Veterans Day Assembly info -
Each year, Ludwig School takes time to recognize our local Veterans and Veterans across the country. Veterans Day assembly information will be sent home with students on Friday, October 7th. If you have a Veteran who is able to attend our assembly celebration, or if you have someone you'd like to honor who is unable to attend, please review this paperwork and return the necessary RSVP and/or picture information. As always if you have any questions, please contact Ludwig's main office.
- Construction update -
Construction at Ludwig is moving along at a much quicker pace, now that exterior brickwork has been completed. Right now, window, door, and drywall installation are taking place. We look forward to major construction completion, tentatively, by the start of November. We'll communicate with families when we are able to officially take possession of the new office space, which we expect will be sometime in early 2023. Stay tuned for more details!
- Fire Prevention Week -
Fire Prevention Week is the week of October 10th. We're excited to welcome firefighters from our local Lockport Fire Department to talk to our students about fire safety and prevention, both at school and at home! We will also conduct out second fire drill of the year, while they are present.
- Red Ribbon Week -
Red Ribbon week is the week of October 24th. Our Ludwig Spirit and Assembly Committee, with input from our Ludwig students, has created spirit week activities to help promote making healthy choices and being drug free:
Monday 10/24 - Wear Red
Tuesday 10/25 - Wear your favorite sports team gear
Wednesday 10/26 - PJ day (no slippers)
Thursday 10/27 - Crazy Sock and/or Crazy Hair Day
Friday 1028 - Wear your favorite color
- Too Good For Drugs -
Each year, Ludwig's 5th grade students begin participating in a monthly "Too Good for Drugs" program, starting this October. We're fortunate to have our own Lockport Police Department officers, Officer Henning and Officer Ganger, come to school to teach our students. They are routinely visible in and around the school setting, and we thank them for striving to build a strong rapport with the teachers and students at Ludwig! The lessons in the "Too Good for Drugs" program introduce and review a series of skills to prepare children to make healthy choices and resist unhealthy behaviors in life. This program will also continue to build capacity for healthy social development and emotional competency, amongst our students.
Sincerely,
Mr. Kulik
