Cowboy Courier
October 17, 2019
Hey there! Hope you are having a great week. Keeping hanging on and doing all the great things you do. I want to tell you things should be slowing down soon, but the calendar looks pretty full. Take care of one another!
Parent conferences are right around the corner. I always like to give a few tips to help develop mindset prior to these meetings. You have a week to think about how you want to share info with parents. "How" you share information is often more impactful than "what" you are sharing.
1. You are talking to parents about the best kid they have to send you.
2. Start and end the conference with positives.
3. Listen. We often have so much we want to say that we forget to listen to the parents' perspective.
4. We offer team work, collaboration, and support. No judgement or accusation.
5. Parents can "feel" if you really like their child. Show them you care.
6. Ask for help prior to the conference if you are uncomfortable.
7. Smile
Day of Awesomeness Note: If a child is not on your roster, but they tell you they should be at the event, please send them to Sandra in the front office. Do NOT simply tell them that they aren't on the list. There is room for human error in identifying siblings, etc, so DO NOT just dismiss a student if they show genuine concern about being left off the list. We get one shot at this and I can't make it up for a student if we mess up.
Q1 Closing
The assignment cutoff date for Quarter 1 Report Cards is this Friday, October 18th.

Have a wonderful Friday and a happy weekend.

Technology Club
From Lynn Buchmiller:
The Coder Z Competition has started and is open to all Cockrill students. We have 1,000 seats but can add more if needed. I have created a Canvas for the Technology Club. If you have students who you think might be interested please share the link. You can also add it to a module in your Canvas. There is a couple of modules but the only one published should be the Coder Z. Students are also welcomed to come to the Technology Club which starts today afterschool in Room E122.
Have a great day!

Sign up for Games
Click HERE to sign up for next Friday's pep rally games.
We need a total of 12 teachers and 12 students for EACH pep rally!
Think of kids in your classes who like to participate in fast-paced activities, are competitive, and aren't afraid to be animated/silly.
Before signing them up, make sure to check who they have 2nd period so you are signing them up for the correct assembly!
Nov. 8th A Honor Roll/CREED Award Assembly AND Veteran's Day Parade
1st period A honor roll/CREED assembly-student report directly to the large gym
At 9:15 (during the assembly) any kids who are in the parade will meet in the cafeteria to prepare for parade. (I will be in the assembly-there won’t be an announcement, so please let the kids go)
When assembly is over, I will announce that anyone participating in the parade needs to go directly to cafeteria. Everyone else returns to 1st period.
Parade will begin at the start of Club CREED 9:35 so bring kids to the hallway.
We will turn off the 9:55 bell that day juuuust in case the parade runs over a few minutes
When parade is over, I will announce dismissal to 2nd period.
Shelli may send additional details about parade.

As of September 1st, 2019, the legal age to purchase tobacco products is 21-years old. That’s the American Heart Association legislative team taking action to protect students against the vaping crisis!
For nearly 100 years, the American Heart Association has been fighting heart disease and stroke, striving to save and improve lives. When you support the American Heart Association, 80 cents of every dollar is spent on research, education and community outreach. Every donation makes an impact!
