Nixon Elementary School
Notables from our Shoolhouse
Dear Families,
Wishing you a wonderful summer! This was quite a school year. Thank you for the communication and connection throughout this journey. Speaking on the phone and video conferencing along the way was very helpful when keeping the positive momentum of this last portion of our school year.
While there were many emails, videos, and various digital connections, each of us persevered through these times well. The work/home balance appeared off centered and seemingly impossible at times! There is a certain value to this time, when looking beyond the delicate balance. This time, we spent with our children. After the days when it seemed like a great deal of artful equilibrium, I did my best to reflect on the fact that I will not have this time back with my own little ones. I chalk it up as special, imperfect, but special.
There are many in our community who lost members of their family throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. You are the strength and courage of this experience. I keep you in my thoughts. Please know that our Nixon community is here for you.
Thank you for supporting our teachers. The positive notes and care to share feedback has been meaningful for all.
Some staff have moved on from Nixon School to new professional endeavors. We wish Anne Cline-Scott, Jennifer Keveny, and Brie Trudeau the best going forward!
Linda Chase, Special Education Teacher, retires this school year. Thank you to Mrs. Chase for making each day bright!
As we think forward to the fall, we await further guidance from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and our Governor. With the guidance provided, we will make for a beneficial and supportive learning environment for all of our children. Social and emotional teaching and learning will strengthen for the reopening of school for staff and families. We will need to keep focus on the nurturing school environment for each and every one of our learners.
Superintendent Crozier guides our plans forward with a Task Force for reopening that began yesterday, June 18. We will join together as a community to make decisions that will advise our next steps.
Wishing you a beautiful summer, thank you for your dedication and hard work over these months.
Sincerely,
Susan Woods
