THOMPSON SAFETY DAY

Today, the Thompson community took part in our first safety day. During a safety day, students and staff practice their identified plans and behaviors in the event of crisis situations. Specifically, we take part in a fire drill, tornado drill, and a safe and secure (lock down) drill. Today we had representatives from both the fire and police departments observing our drills and providing feedback that helps us improve our systems. By taking proactive measures to prepare for each of these emergency situations, we help ensure that our Thompson Middle School students are as safe as possible at all times.

We will continue to run safety drills periodically throughout the school year. Parents please know that the Thompson staff is vigilant with regard to our safety policies, and we will continue to make the safety of your children a priority. If you have any questions about our safety procedures, please do not hesitate to call us at (331) 228-3100.

WARM DAYS AT THOMPSON
It was hot a few days this week in our 7/8 center with this July-like weather. Please know that we take this situation very seriously.

  • The District facility department has been providing bottled water. This is available to our students/staff in many locations throughout the 7/8 center.
  • Cool Spaces are identified and teachers have been moving students to these locations.
  • We continuously monitor the weather and, as was the case on Monday and Tuesday, cancel or relocate after school athletic practices and events. We do this reluctantly as these contests are difficult to reschedule, but feel it is necessary for student safety.
  • PE classes often modify their instruction on hot days.

Please know that your child’s health and well-being is at the forefront of what we do every day, and especially on challenging days with extreme heat.

We hope you will be able to join us for our Curriculum Nights on September 6th (6th Grade) and September 11th (7th and 8th Grades) beginning at 7:00 pm!

Enjoy your Labor Day weekend!
