News from Lakeridge Middle School
We're Moving!
You read that right; we're moving out of our current campus to prepare for the opening of our brand new Lakeridge Middle School building. With the decision to be fully remote for at least quarter one, we were able to accelerate the schedule for abatement and demolition which will allow us to have a completed parking lot sooner too. Staff are currently packing the building, which will close permanently on August 14th. Stay tuned for updates about where we'll be hosting library checkouts and other essential start of school activities in the days and weeks ahead.
Farewell Waluga
The time has come to say farewell to the Waluga building. As we navigate the public health guidelines related to COVID-19, we're unable to gather inside the building to share memories and say goodbye in person, but we're putting together a digital scrapbook of memories and messages. You can contribute your memory or message of farewell here: https://flipgrid.com/2825f481
Welcome new students and families!
We're eager to get to know our new students and their families. Welcome to the Lakeridge Middle School community! While we'll be learning new ways to welcome you this year, know that we are here for you and thinking about how to build your connections to our learning community this year. In the weeks ahead, we'll keep sending messages like this one to help you learn about what is happening in the life of our school. You can also stay connected on Youtube and Twitter using the links at the bottom of this message. Watch for more communication from our student Ambassadors and our Parent Club too. We take care of each other at Lakeridge and we're looking forward to taking care of you too.
Welcome 6th graders and families!
Welcome to middle school! We cannot wait to get to know our newest 6th grade class and their families. Watch for messages from our Building Connections Leaders, who we call BC Leaders for short, in the weeks ahead about how these important 8th grade student leaders will be taking care of you as you make the leap into middle school and we all make the leap into remote learning. Middle School is an amazing time and we're going to make sure it's amazing for you!
Upcoming Events
LMS Principal's Forum
August 12- There is lots of information coming at all of us right now and, understandably, you may have questions how it all pertains to life here at LMS. Join our Principal, Dr. Schultz, and Assistant Principal, Ms. Knapp, online from 3-4:30PM for a chance to connect, hear answers to frequently asked questions, and learn more about what work is still in progress as we head toward the start of a brand new school year. RSVP here if you'd like a link to the zoom meeting and/or to submit a question you have.
BC Leader and Ambassador Council Training Day
August 13- Our BC Leader advisor, Ms. Haffenreffer, will be reaching out to all our BC Leaders and Ambassadors Council members with details about the virtual training day including google classroom links and zoom plans. Watch for more information from her very soon!
Meet and Greet
September 2, 3, and 4- We cannot wait to see all of you (Grades 6-8) at our meet and greet chromebook/textbook checkout which will happen during the day on September 2, 3, and 4 outdoors at Palisades Elementary School. All students will have a scheduled appointment to pick up materials for remote learning and meet briefly with their first period teacher for Quarter 1. Returning students (7th & 8th grade) should bring your charged chromebook so we can help with your google classroom setup. Masks and social distancing will be required and appointment times will ensure that no one has to navigate a crowd. Watch for more details as these dates approach.
Smart Start
September 4- Though we won't be in-person for learning to start the year, we want to help all our students who receive supports from 504 accommodations or Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) connect with their teachers in a personal way that allows us to know you and how to best support your learning as we launch the year. Watch for more details about this annual opportunity to connect, which will happen virtually on September 4th from 2-4PM.
First day of school
September 8- The first day of school for all students districtwide. In the weeks ahead will be communicating about the schedule including information about how to log in to remote learning whether you are an LOSD Online student or a hybrid student engaged in fully remote learning for Quarter 1.
Construction Corner
The new building continues to progress toward final completion. Next week we'll include photos of our latest building walk so you can get a peek inside and see rooms that are being painted, bathrooms being tiled, kitchen equipment installations, and so many more finishes that are bringing the long-awaited dream to life.
