We hope your enjoyed your 4-H experiences this year! It was most definitely a wonderful summer filled with fun and learning. The Franklin County Fair was a tremendous success and we would like to thank the many volunteers that made it all happen:

  • The Franklin County Junior Fair Board

  • The Franklin County 4-H Council Volunteers
  • The Livestock Sale Committee
  • and the many 4-H club advisors who spend countless hours making 4-H great!

2017 JR. FAIR BOARD APPLICATIONS DUE AUGUST 10

Want to be a part of the amazing group of young people that make so many of the events at the Franklin County Fair happen? Now's your chance! The deadline is August 10, so act fast. Find the application HERE.

Eligibility Requirements:

Board Members: Must be at least 14 years of age as of 9/30/16, or at least a Freshman in High School to 18 years of age as of the application deadline. Must be current member of 4-H, Girl Scouts, and/or Boy Scouts.

Interns: Must be in 7th to 8th grade as of the application deadline and current member of 4-H, Boy Scouts and/or Girl Scouts.

4-H AWARD OPPORTUNITIES

Make sure you take the opportunity to fill out the appropriate award forms so that you can receive the credit you deserve for all of your accomplishments in 4-H! Here are the awards that are available...

Clover Award Forms (project members only)
These simple award forms are easy to fill out. Just mark off the activities that you've participated in this year, add up your points, and find out if you've qualified for a Gold, Silver, or Bronze Clover Award.

Community Service, Leadership, & Public Speaking Awards (project members only)
Check off the activities that you've completed on each of these forms to see if you've qualified for one or all of these award pins.

Outstanding 4-H Member of the Year Award (project members only)
This competitive award is only given to a select few in each age category to honor those that have gone above and beyond in their 4-H experiences. Award reviewers compile scores from clover and pin awards, review project and 4-H experiences, and read the short response essays on the all new online application to select the winners of this award.

Cloverbud Pin Award (Cloverbud members only)
Our youngest members in Kindergarten through second grade can complete this form to receive their Cloverbud Pin Award at the recognition program.

ALL AWARD FORMS ARE DUE SEPTEMBER 26, 2016.
Mark your calendars for the annual 4-H recognition program to be held November 7, 6:00pm, at the Ohio 4-H Center. These awards will be presented that night. Look for the RSVP link in your inbox in October!

ATTENTION ADVISORS:
Your club may be eligible for the Helping Hands Community Service Award or the Honor Club Award. The applications are available HERE.

2017 4-H ACTIVITY FEE CHANGE

The Franklin County 4-H Council recently voted to change the county 4-H Activity Fee to $20 for ALL 4-H members instead of $20 for the first child in the family and $10 for all other children in the family. This fee is used for educational and recognition programming. This fee is separate from any club dues that your club may have.

NEW! OHIO 4-H TEEN LEADERSHIP COUNCIL

The Teen Advisory Council and Ambassador programs have merged to become the “Teen Leadership Council” (TLC). 4-H youth 14-18 are encouraged to apply for this opportunity! Applications and more information for this group are now available online at: go.osu.edu/TLC. Please note applications (and other materials, including letters of recommendation) are due to the State 4-H Office Friday, August 12, 2016.

NEW CLUBS NEEDED!

Demand for new clubs and new 4-H advisors is growing! If you are interested in starting a 4-H club, please contact Beth at boomershine.10@osu.edu for more information.

To start a new club, you must be an official Ohio 4-H Volunteer that has been through the six step screening process. You can find an application HERE and please save the date for the required new volunteer orientation on September 27, 6:30pm, at the Extension Office, 2105 S Hamilton Rd., Suite 100, Columbus, OH 43232.

Did you know that OSU Extension, Franklin County has a monthly electronic newsletter called Extension Connections? In fact, in last month’s newsletter there was a feature article about the 4-H Walk and Serve and all its success! While Extension Connections is different than our Franklin County 4-H newsletter, Green & Growing, it’s still a great way to stay up-to-date with events, programs, and services your Franklin County Extension office has to offer.
