Virtual Parenting Sessions with Jackie Rhew
All District 47 families are invited to attend the final session of a four-part virtual parenting series with Jackie Rhew on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 @ 7pm via Zoom. The topic is Parenting with a Growth Mindset. Parents will learn how to use a growth mindset and help their child step out of their comfort zone, handle disappointment, set healthy boundaries, and increase motivation. These are valuable skills that correlate to engaging and succeeding in the school environment. This approach has proven successful with students who are fearful of failure, as it teaches them how to embrace a ‘bounce back’ mentality. Translation will be available in multiple languages via captioning in Zoom. To learn more and join the meeting via Zoom, visit the D47 website.

Sodexo Future Chef Competition
The 2023 Sodexo Future Chef competition will be held Thursday, March 23 at 4 p.m. at Hannah Beardsley Middle School. This year's theme is "a healthy side dish" and District 47 students in 2nd-5th grades are invited to submit recipes to the school via the recipe card linked below! Recipes will be reviewed by Sodexo and two winners from each school will be chosen to participate in the competition. In addition, this year kindergarten and 1st graders are invited to participate in a culinary coloring contest. Coloring sheets will be available at D47 elementary schools by March 1. Students who complete a coloring sheet can return it to their teacher, who will then forward it on to the cafeteria manager to be displayed in the school cafeteria. All recipes and coloring sheets must be submitted to school cafeteria managers by March 10, 2023. See the links below. Questions about Sodexo Future Chef events can be directed to Alicia Taylor-Bey, Sodexo general manager, at ataylorbey@d47.org.

2023 5Essentials Parent Survey
The 5Essentials parent survey, administered online by UChicago Impact, is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of schools. It is intended to help school districts understand the conditions at each school and to help guide improvement. The survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved attendance and larger test score gains. Parents are encouraged to take the survey for their child's school by visiting https://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/. Parent identity and survey responses will be kept confidential and will not be connected to their student(s). Families can submit one survey for each child. The 5Essentials survey window will be open through March 31, 2023.
