American Legion Post 663 Recognizes Webster Students For Exemplary Flag Essay Contest Submissions
Webster Elementary fifth grade student, Lily Brown, won the local American Legion Post 663 “Flag Essay Contest'' for her creative and comprehensive essay about the United States Flag. The purpose of The American Legion of Iowa Essay contest is for elementary students to develop deeper knowledge and appreciation for the United States Flag and gain knowledge of flag etiquette and respect for the flag. Essays reflect the students’ perspective of what the United States Flag represents to them using facts from the United States Flag Code. Lily was presented her award by Jim Cade of Legion Post 663.
In addition, Webster fifth grade students, Hallie Roberts and Caden Richmond, received recognition for their outstanding essays during the Flag Essay Contest. Lily, Hallie, and Caden are in Ms. Schaub’s Fifth Grade Class. Urbandale Community School District congratulates these students for their dedication to learning about the United States Flag and their demonstration of that learning in their award-winning essays. We are #proudofU!

Open Enrollment Application
The deadline for filing an open enrollment application for the 2022-2023 school year is March 1, 2022 for grades 1-12 and September 1, 2022 for kindergarten students. The completed form should be submitted to the resident and to the receiving district.
Students that open enroll in grades 9-12 shall not be eligible to participate in varsity contests and competitions during the first ninety (90) school days of transfer.
Parents are responsible for transporting children open enrolled to another district. This applies to all students, including those with an IEP. If a child open enrolls to a district that is contiguous (borders) to the home district, and the parents’ income meets economic eligibility requirements, the family may qualify for transportation assistance.
Applications that have been denied may be appealed in the Iowa District Court of the resident district. If the application is based on harassment or a serious health condition, the denied application would be appealed to the Iowa Department of Education.
