FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
REGISTRATION QUESTIONS
1. If my student attended a “feeder school” and was in the Calcasieu Parish school system last school year, what do I have to do to register my student at Barbe?
-You do not have to do anything other than pay your fees online. Your student will automatically roll up to Barbe if they are an in-zone student that attended a feeder school, such as SJ Welsh, last school year.
2. How do I know if I am in-zone or out-of-zone?
-Go to www.cpsb.org, hover over the “Parents/Students” option at the top and select “School Zones” under the “General” box on the left-hand side of the page. You will need to enter your address and the map will show you what schools you are zoned for. If you are unsure, please contact Child Welfare and Attendance to get clarification. They can be reached at (337) 217-4230.
3. If my child attended a private school and wants to attend Barbe next school year, what do I need to do?
-You will need to contact Child Welfare and Attendance at (337) 217-4230 to obtain a permit to register and get your student entered into the Calcasieu Parish School system. Barbe cannot register your student until that has been completed.
4. If my student was a student at Barbe last school year and I pay all my fees online for the 21-22 school year, do I still have to attend registration?
-No, you will not need to attend registration. Barbe will not have a face-to-face registration for any returning students. We will only have a registration for those students that are new to Barbe.
PARKING QUESTIONS
5. If I purchase a parking tag, when will my student receive it?
-Once school starts, Mrs. Pousson in the front office will begin calling students down to give out parking tags and have students fill out the year, make, model, and license plate number of their vehicle. All students who park on campus are required to have a parking tag and are only allowed to park in the student parking lot across the street from campus.
6. Where are the general parking spaces?
-Any parking space that is NOT NUMBERED is a general parking space. Reserved spaces are those that are numbered in white paint and are located near the crosswalk between the baseball field and McNeese Street.
DRESS CODE/UNIFORM QUESTIONS
7. Can students wear jeans or leggings to school?
-No, jeans and leggings are not allowed. Only navy or khaki shorts, skirts, or pants are allowed. Shorts or skirts should be no shorter than 2 inches above the knee. The principal may designate certain days as blue jean days as a reward. If a student chooses to wear jeans or leggings to school on a day other than an approved day, they will be required to call home to get the appropriate uniform clothing and/or they may receive disciplinary consequences.
8. Will students have to wear masks for the 21-22 school year?
-They are not required to wear them but may wear them on a voluntary basis.
9. How do I order the daily approved uniform shirt(s)?
-The link to order shirts is https://www.outfittersink.com/. These shirts are OPTIONAL and the solid color collared button up shirts are still allowed. Any shirt ordered by July 10th is guaranteed to be delivered prior to the start of school. Any shirts ordered after that time may not be available until after school starts. No daily approved uniform shirts will be sold on Barbe’s campus anymore.
BEGINNING-OF-SCHOOL QUESTIONS
10. When is the first day of school?
-The first day for students is Friday, August 13th.
11. What time does school start this year?
-The first bell will ring at 7:43. Students will be considered tardy after 7:48. The bell to dismiss school for the day is at 3:10.
12. Where does my student report on the first day of school as soon as the bell rings?
-All students will report to homeroom. The homeroom lists will be posted all around campus for students to see. We will also post this homeroom list on the front glass near the office on Monday, August 9th along with a map of the school to assist students.
13. What school supplies does my student need to bring to school on the first day?
-Students should bring pen/pencil, a small notebook or loose-leaf paper, and a folder. Many teachers will ask students to write down important information and they will be handing out quite a bit of paperwork for students to take home.
14. How will my student know where to go if they are lost on campus?
-Student council members, teachers, and administrators will be walking around campus all day and in between classes to assist students with finding their classes. Students may also take a picture of the school map on their cell phone to assist them with finding their way around campus.
