Counselor's Corner
Skyline families,
This week Skyline students will be joining schools across the world to participate in the “Great Kindness Challenge.” For the challenge, we will be hosting a sock drive for our local homeless shelter and participating in the following daily activities:
Monday: Clap-in (teachers will meet in the hallway outside the gym to clap kids into class). Students will receive their kindness challenge handouts with instructions for completing small acts of kindness throughout the week.
Tuesday: No name calling week - teachers will play the announcements and have a brief discussion with students about being kind with our words.
Wednesday: Focus on our sock-drive. Teachers will report their class sock count, play the announcements and discuss why so many people just walked by the child in the video without doing anything.
Thursday: No one eats alone day. Teachers will play the announcement video about social isolation and students will participate in a lunch activity pairing kids who would not normally sit together.
Friday: PBIS assembly. Principled awards with a special kind classroom award. We will end the assembly by reciting the Skyline pledge.
Have a wonderful week,
Amy Gervais

IB Corner
Next Friday morning we will be having an assembly to celebrate our Skyline students who have been nominated by their teachers as being Principled. Being Principled is one of the hardest Learner profiles to demonstrate as to truly be principled it it might mean doing the right thing even if others are not. To be Principled:
"Learners act with integrity and honesty, with a strong sense of fairness, justice and respect for the dignity of the individual, groups and communities. They take responsibility for their own actions and the consequences that accompany them."
Here are some picture books to help talk about what it means to be Principled.
TAG Information
I am working with the TAG proctor on scheduling our TAG testing for all students who were nominated to test back in November. The testing will be in the month of February, however, we are just connecting calendars as to what days work for the proctor as well as our school. I will send home letters the week prior to notifying families as well as post the dates in this newsletter.
