The Gold Leaf!!!!!!!
By Harry Fowler
What is Gold Leaf?
Gold leaf is gold that has been hammered out very thinly so it is as thin as paper. It is so thin that if you rub it between your fingers, it will disappear. It can be used to coat small statues in gold using a special technique. You can search that up on YouTube to see the process of the gold leaf making, and the coating technique.
The relevance of Tanuki to Gold Leaf
Tanuki and Gold Leaf
Tanuki scrotums used to be used by people who made Gold Leaf, as they would wrap the gold with the scrotum, and hammer it out very thinly. Tanuki scrotums are said to be able to stretch out to the size of eight tatami mats (which is about 13 square meters). Because the smiths would need a material that would stretch out very thinly, they chose Tanuki scrotums.
