November News From the Middle School Counselor Mrs. Tuchi
Gaming and Addiction
On Wednesday, November 13, Mrs. Hebert (High School Counselor) and myself spoke to a group of parents about gaming and video addiction. Some experts describe it as an addiction and others as a compulsive disorder. As parents what we need to be aware that video games or e-games (electronic games), become a problem when they interfere with daily life. All games are rated and it is our responsibility to know what our children are playing. The most popular games have sexual, sexist, and violent content. Video gaming is a 90 billion business and growing. I have included a video of a former gamer that has great information. We will be uploading the power point presentation onto our web page.

Mindfulness and Self-care Training
On Monday, November 17, I will be participating in a mindfulness and self-care training with several other school counselors. Mindfulness is defined as the human ability to be present, aware of where we are and what we are doing, and not overly react or be overwhelmed by what's going on around us.
Breathing techniques and relaxation exercises are also an integral part of mindfulness.
