The Manning Weekly Newsletter
September 13, 2019
Dear Families,
It was an fun and learning-filled week at Manning that culminated on a Friday the 13th AND a full moon. PHEW!
A full moon on Friday the 13th is an extremely rare occurrence, according to the Farmers' Almanac. It reports that this will be the first full moon visible across the U.S. on Friday the 13th since Oct. 13, 2000. The next one isn't expected to happen again for another 30 years—on Aug. 13, 2049.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and thanks, as always, for sharing your kids with us. It is our honor to serve them.

6th Graders Interested in Student Council
Student Council is looking for 6th graders to join Manning's Student Council starting in the Spring 2020 semester. If you are interested, please complete the form below. The application does require a letter of recommendation from a teacher and one from a peer. The names of these references will be asked for on the Google Form, but hard copies of letters of recommendation can be submitted to Ms. Agard in room B3. Applications are due no later than Thursday, October 31st, as we would like to inform kids they've been invited to join by Thanksgiving Break of this year. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Agard (Shauna.Agard@jeffco.k12.co.us).
Let's keep the parking lot safe!
Also, please help them remember to walk their bikes and carry their skateboards/scooters once they arrive on campus.
Do you love ROCK AND ROLL?
Week 3 features the British Invasion, with The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Animals, the Dave Clark Five, and other bands. Back in the States, we pick up with the Beach Boys and the Mamas and the Papas. Along the way, we discuss the impacts of the burgeoning Civil Rights Movement, the national mood after the assassination of JFK, and other major changes that dawned in the early 1960s.
Each week of Rock Seminar presents key musical acts, along with several songs and, when available, videos and films of the artists, along with discussions of societal changes, and advancement of recording technology.
