MEA Students serve the homeless
Recently some of our MEA students visited TACO (Third Avenue Charitable Organization) to help feed and clothe the homeless. Our students were able to serve food and hand out socks and clothing. They were also able to greet and visit with the individuals who came downtown to be served. Everyone had a good time and enjoyed being of service.

Halozyme opens its doors to students for the first time!
Last Friday, Mt. Everest students had the opportunity to visit Halozyme Therapeutics to tour the facility and meet the CEO and many of the staff scientists! This is the first time Halozyme has had students tour their labs and space! Students went in groups to visit several labs involved in Halozyme’s innovative biotechnology which is helping to treat cancer as well as deliver medication to chemotherapy patients. Halozyme’s enzyme has reduced chemo treatment times from 6-8 hours or more to less than 1 hour for several medications! It was a really cool experience to see how the enzyme is produced and tested. We saw cell culture, enzyme growth, and testing labs. We also were able to learn how the drug works directly from a talk from the CEO of Halozyme, Helen Torley. Other executive management officers that spoke to us were Michael LaBarre, VP, Chief Scientific Officer and Jim Mazzola, VP, Corporate Communication and Investor Relations.
This was a very informative and exciting opportunity, and Mt. Everest hopes to continue to engage with Halozyme for events like this in the future!

Food Allergy Awareness
In honor of May 13-19, 2018 being Food Allergy Awareness Week, Ms. Flo's kindergarten students recently participated in activities related to food allergies. A few students wore teal, as teal is the signature color of food allergies. (The Empire State Building was actually lit up in teal on the night of May 13!) Awareness activities included:
- Cutting and pasting pictures of food into a safe or not safe category
- Observing a demonstration on the effectiveness of hand wipes
- Receiving a gift bag with allergy free food treats
- Ms. Flo read aloud the book "The Allergic Princess"
One in 13 children has food allergies so it's important that doctors, families, school staff, and fellow students learn how they can help keep children with food allergies safe.
Please Return your enrollment packets

California School Parent Survey
Dear Mt. Everest Academy Parents,
Please take a moment to read this letter regarding the California School Parent Survey. This is an opportunity to share your opinions about the climate of our school. The data is used in a variety of ways including as an indicator on the CA School Dashboard and as evidence for our accreditation process.
It is imperative that we have a high participation rate so please take a moment to complete the survey online at this link: https://surveys.wested.org/csps/QP337DH
If you would prefer, paper copies can be found at the front office.
Please note that parents only need to complete and return one survey - for your oldest child attending Mt. Everest Academy. Thank you!
