SARS or "severe acute respiratory syndrome" is a virus.It is caused by the SARS Corona virus or SARS-CoV.
How Is The Virus Spread
The disease is spread much like the common cold.

- Hugging
- Kissing someone
- Using something contaminated by the virus.
- Coughing
- Speaking to someone within three feet
What are the symptoms
Signs usually develop in about a week. Usually it starts out like the flu.
After this you gain symptoms like:
- A fever of 100.5 or higher.
- A dry cough.
- Shortness of breath.
How Is it Treated
SARS is very difficult to treat but you are treated for pneumonia like symptoms. Usually a fever and breathing. You are treated with pure oxygen and a medicine called Bronchodilators.
How To Prevent Yourself From Getting It
The biggest thing is washing your hands regularly. Next you should always wear protective gear when treating body fluids. You should definitely wear a mask and gloves when in the same room with a SARS patient. Finally you should disinfect SARS contaminated surfaces or objects.

SARS was originally from China. 774 people died between 2002 and 2003. The last case of SARS was contained on May 18, 2004. On October 5, 2012 it was confirmed to being a possible threat to the public in the future.
