News From Room 211, December 7, 2015
I hope you noticed a note in your child's planner on Friday. I've started a new behavior management system (the idea borrowed from another Claxton teacher and tweaked). Students earn positive marks for following our school and classroom rules. Great behavior for a math lesson? I might say "Please give yourself a smiley face". Or, if a rule is broken, I may say "If you were talking in the hall, please give yourself a tally mark". For every smiley face, students earn a point. For each tally, there is no negative consequence at this time. My hope is that students will begin to become aware of how much they're talking, or wandering in the room, or unfocused during a lesson. I want everyone to become more self aware. I am trusting students to be honest with themselves and with me. We all want everyone to have the environment they need to be successful. Each day we will be working toward having fewer tallies while increasing the positive behavior signs.
Points may be spent as follows:
- 10 points - small snack
- 20 points - bring a stuffed animal to school (tiny, please)
- 30 points - sock feet in the classroom
- 40 points - read a favorite picture book to the class
- 50 points - trip to treasure box
- 60 points - lunch with a friend
- 70 points - sit with a friend
- 80 points - Show and Tell
If you have any ideas for great reward for your students (these are some of their ideas), please let me know.
Please continue to check your child's planner each day and sign that you've seen the assignments for the day.
As always, I appreciate the support you show your child and our class. It is truly appreciated.
Have a great week,
Holly
