3% Mask Requirement
On August 24, 2021, the Weld RE-4 Board of Education drafted and approved a motion that requires masks for staff and students in schools where the number of positive COVID cases is at or above 3% of the number of students enrolled in the school. Our school currently has 25 positive COVID cases, which meets this 3% mark.
Therefore, starting on Thursday, September 2, masks will be required for everyone inside of Windsor Middle School (students, staff and visitors regardless of vaccination status) and on the bus. Masks are not required outdoors.
On Thursday, September 16, the numbers will be evaluated and if the number of positive COVID cases is below 3%, masks will no longer be required effective Friday, September 17. This information will be shared with families on Thursday, September 16.
In addition to the 3% marker, the board motion also states that, at any time, if a single class has an outbreak of 5 or more students, that class will be transitioned into remote learning for a 14-day period.
This mask requirement is temporary. It is meant, as the board explained, to slow transmission at schools where it appears to be gaining momentum. This is an important step to take for the health and safety of our school community.
Thank you for your cooperation, patience, and understanding as we work to keep our students healthy, safe, and attending school in-person.
Continuity of Learning for Quarantined Students
When students are quarantined from school, either as a cohort or an individual, but are still otherwise well and able to participate in instructional activities, they are expected to engage in their coursework from home by checking all of their Canvas courses for assignments.
For technology troubleshooting assistance, please reach out to your teacher first. If further assistance is required, please reach out to our Helpdesk: 970-686-8020 - Option #1. Please Note: At this time, Weld RE-4 is not supporting printing from home-based printers.
STUDENT AND FAMILY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Students should complete instructional activities assigned by teachers within the expected timelines. Students should participate in check-ins, discussions, and other communication mechanisms as expected by the teacher.
- Students should review teacher feedback and complete any follow-up activities as assigned by the teacher.
- Students and families should proactively notify their teacher or a school administrator with any concerns about progress or additional support needed.
- Families should support students in being successful by establishing routines and habits that support their success in at-home learning.
- Families should ensure that students are adhering to their school’s contract for appropriate behavior on web-enabled devices.

Updated Bell Schedule
In an effort to continually improve, we are constantly evaluating our practices and systems here at Windsor Middle School. Due to overcrowding issues and in order to prioritize students’ health and safety, we are adjusting our schedule. Starting tomorrow, Wednesday, September 1, we implement the following schedule:
Essentially, what was formerly an end-of-the-day Advisory period will now be adjacent to lunch. Each grade-level will be split into two, 25-minute lunch periods, which will allow us to serve a smaller group of approximately 140 students in the cafeteria at once, rather than 280. Additionally, the current third period will shift to the end of the day. All classes and teachers remain the same; we are simply adjusting the schedule . Your child will receive a printed version of their new schedule in Period 1 on Wednesday, September 1.
We have had a great start to the year at WMS. It’s exciting to see all of the learning and engagement taking place, which will be even further enhanced by this revised schedule. Thank you for your support.
College Fridays
SRO Student of the Week
Our School Resource Officer, Officer Walker, initiated a new program this year - SRO Student of the Week. Teachers nominate students who go above and beyond regarding safety and security within our WMS community.
Congratulations, Grady, for earning this week's SRO Student of the Week Award!
Shout-out to Our Amazing Cafe Staff!
Hats-Off Teacher Award Recipient
Keep 'em coming! We LOVE honoring our staff by presenting these "Hats Off Awards!"
Today, Ms. Mercer was surprised during her Advisory class. One of our grateful parents wrote, "My son has anxiety and change can be hard. From the first time Ms. Mercer met him she immediately made him feel at home. When he was full of tears on the first day she helped him with his locker. Now a week later, he tells me she is an amazing teacher as well. He is inspired already with TLC. Thank you Ms. Mercer. You’re amazing!"
