News from Mrs. Mankin
Dear Bulldog Families,
We hope that you and your family continue to be healthy and safe. As we wait to hear from state and local officials regarding continued or reduced restrictions, we keep collaborating and planning for the future at both the district and building levels.
To stay updated, please be sure to review Dr. Bourff's video message as well as the FAQ section of our HSE website as this does provide answers to many questions and is continuously updated. Here is just one of the new highlights:
- Will HSE Schools continue to host and/or attend events?
All HSE School buildings and facilities are closed to the public and will remain closed until further notice, this includes providing or sponsoring any camps, classes or extracurricular activities in the month of June. We remain optimistic that activities can resume after the week of July 4, but an official decision will be determined at a later date.
Our priority continues to be making positive connections and helping support your student's social-emotional needs during this time! Teachers have identified priority standards to cover; however, they understand the importance of students feeling safe and healthy in order to learn. As always, thank you for partnering with us in education! Stay healthy and safe.
Sincerely,
Lori Mankin

News from PTO
Hamilton Southeastern School Panorama Survey
Instead, we plan to gather feedback from stakeholders as we strive to continually improve our communication, responses, and actions during this unique eLearning situation. Therefore, on Monday, May 4, HSE will launch a different set of surveys specifically created for this time. The data collected from these surveys will be used in three ways:
- To evaluate the eLearning experience and communication;
- To inform preparations for the reopening of school;
- To prepare for future school closures.
On May 4, a link to the family survey will be sent directly from Panorama Education to your family. More specific information was emailed to you yesterday via an HSE Skylert email. Our 3rd and 4th grade students will receive a link to a student survey in their school email. It will also be included in their eLearning activities from their teacher during the week of May 4. If you would prefer your student not participate in the survey, please email Eric Day at eday@hse.k12.in.us to have your student’s survey link deactivated.
Optional Field Day Fun
"Open" National Field Day - Friday, May 8th
Our school community has the option of participating in the OPEN National Field Day event on Friday, May 8th! The "Open" Field Day day is a fun opportunity for our students and staff, and we feel that in these incredibly challenging times this national event is a unique way that we can stay connected as a community and support one another in a fun and meaningful way.
All events are designed to be done indoors or outdoors using common household items. You should not need to purchase any specialized equipment or supplies. Families can choose to register as well, but it’s not a requirement. Students may participate in one or all of the activities, and there is no need to use or return scorecards. It is for fun! You may share your experience by posting videos and photos on your social media using #NBEFieldDay and #NationalFieldDay.
You may access information on the "Open" website or find the information shared on Mrs. Jackson’s eLearning page on Canvas. This link contains videos of the actual activities. If you would like more specific information about the event: registration, use of score cards, etc. visit this link
Have fun making memories with your family!
Helpful Resources from Mrs. Leiner - 2nd Step
During the 2019-2020 school year our students have been actively participating in the Second Step program which is our Social Emotional Learning curriculum which has been taught weekly in the classroom setting. This curriculum focuses on promoting and teaching social, emotional, and academic success. The four units include: Skills for Learning, Empathy, Emotional Management and Problem Solving. These are all vital learning skills now more than ever.
This is a difficult time for our students and families and Second Step has provided New On-Demand, Teacher-Led Lessons and Videos along with free resources for families to access Free of Charge. The New On-Demand lessons are in the 3rd section of this link and are taught by Second Step teachers and counselors.
Please visit this link which outlines all the resources and tools Second Step is providing to teachers and families. Please take a look at some of these free lessons for your family.

STAFF SPOTLIGHT
Mrs. Jodi Sarkovics – Third Grade Teacher
A Little about Me: I have been teaching for 24 years. I started in Lawrence Township and moved to New Britton six years ago. I am married and have three children: Katelyn (19), Connor (16), and Kylie (14). We also have a sweet Yorkie named Izzy who is spoiled rotten.
What Brings Me Joy: I love spending time with my family, often just doing the simple things like going out to dinner. On the weekend you might see me at a cross country meet cheering on Katelyn and Connor or at a dance competition cheering on Kylie. I also look forward to our breaks because that is my chance to read. Reading a good book brings me so much joy!
Favorite Food: I love Mexican food. I also love sweets, especially chocolate!
Favorite place to visit: My favorite place to visit is the beach. I am happiest laying out in the sun with a good book.
