Men's Fashion in the 1920's
How fashion contributed to materialism and consumerism
What was the style so long ago during the 1920's?
Men's style was beginning to change during this time period. Suit jackets were more slim, and people began to wear there trousers with many different styles. Some people wore them with a more wide fit, while some others felt that to best express themselves they needed to wear more of a slim look styled trouser.
People want a little of every style
People who wanted to follow the latest trends usually would buy a lot of different clothing since it changed so much. People like this contributed to the over all materialism and consumerism because as they continued to buy clothes the companies had to keep producing them.
Text Exmple
The Great Gatsby is an example of 1920's men's fashion. In this movie the fashion displayed is how men and women dressed in the roaring 20's and it makes it seem cool by bringing back some old styles
Image that depicts topic
This image can relate to my topic the best because it shows all different styles during the 20's. As you see, the trousers have different styles even though all are cuffed. The left is more of a slim fit suit, while the others show the slim jacket with wider bottoms. This can tie back into consumerism and materialism in a way that people want something from every different style.
Quote
“Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months.” -Oscar Wilde
This quote ties in very well with what my overall topic is. What this is saying is that you WILL buy new clothing because of what is "just in". This really can be related to consumerism and materialism because it literally says that things will change often which will bring the need for more materials.
