ELA
Happy Monday! We are down to the last 2 weeks of the quarter. Please make sure you child is checking Power School to see if they are any missing assignments. We are starting a new Module in ELA. This module is called, "Project Earth". The essential question in this module is: How can baring for the Earth and its living things improve life now and in the future?
Vocabulary this module: yield, humble, urban, influence, plots, alternative, transform, artificial. We will also be identifying analogies. These can be hard for some students. During Reading we will be using the strategies of Asking and Answering questions, What is the Author's purpose for writing, identifying the Main and Central Idea of a text, the Author's craft.
We will also be taking the Reading Inventory before Winter break. This will help show growth and a mid year point of your child's lexile/reading level.
Have a great week.

Math
We are entering another week of adding and subtracting fractions. I am so proud of how hard everyone has working, and it's been so fun to see the "light bulbs" go off as students achieve a greater understanding of fractions. Just a reminder students should complete their exit ticket for homework, if they have not finished it in class, it is only about 2 problems but gives me a good insight into how well students are understanding the daily lessons! Also, all students are allowed one additional retake, and this can be done either in school or at home through Canvas. Please double check your students PowerSchools to see if they should complete any retakes for a better grade. There are a couple more quizzes and an end of the module test before the semester closes, so students will have multiple chances to improve their grade as well. As always, please reach out with any questions or concerns!

Science
We will start the week with a unit assessment for the Mystery Science Chemical Magic unit. On Monday and Tuesdays students will also participate in an Hour of Code. Then later in the week students will read about a young girl who used science to create a business where she sells bath bombs. We will get to explore what causes the reaction when the bath bombs are placed in water. At the end of the week the students will work on a choice board activity for the quarter.

Social Studies
These are the essential questions of the week: Why do people take risks?
What do people fight for?
How do ideas influence choices? We will be working on these things throughout the week: Questions about The War of 1812; Doodle Notes for The Nation Begins to Divide (The North); Doodle Notes for The Nation Begins to Divide (The South); Compare/Contrast the North and the South.

Dojo Store Donations
Students have been working hard this quarter to earn Dojo points for following expectations and showing our school STARS qualities of Respect, Trustworthiness, Accountability, Responsibility and Safety. We have a 5th grade Dojo store, where they can redeem the points they have been earning all quarter to buy items. To help make this a successful activity for the students, we are asking for donations of small items for the students to be able to purchase in the store. If you are able and willing to help out, please send in items by Friday, December 11th. Some examples of things that have been popular are little squishy balls, party favor items, dollar store items, fun gel or glitter pens, pencil top erasers, snack items (NUT FREE) such as mini bags of chips / pringles / crackers / fruit snacks, Jolly Ranchers / etc. Anything that you know your child may enjoy would be great for the store. Please only send in prepacked new items. We appreciate any support you can give with sending items in this week. Thank you!
