Mary's Mount Primary School
Term 2, Week 4 - 14 May 2021
My newsletter piece this week is a celebration of our Catholic Identity. I am drawing your attention to significant prayerful celebrations we have held in the school of late and how they have a huge impact on the children, staff and wider community. We are a Christ-centered and child-focused community of engaged learners, seeking to inspire all to actively live the Gospel.
Community Mass at Holy Family Parish - Saturday 8 May
It was wonderful to see our Parish and school community coming together to celebrate our first community mass. Thank you to Fr. Suresh, Sue Blair and the parish for supporting this initiative with Mary’s Mount Primary School. We are all working towards building our important links with the parish community. A very special thank you to Mr Smith, Mr. Sorgiovanni, Mrs. Branche, their students and families for their participation at mass on Saturday evening. Thank you also to Mrs. Freeman and the choir for supporting this mass with their beautiful singing.
Ascension Mass - Year 2
On Thursday 13 May the Mary's Mount Primary School community gathered in prayer in the St Emilie de Vialar Chapel. Mass was led by Father Suresh and the Year 2 children. It was delightful seeing the children sharing mass together in the Chapel. Their sweet voices sang and the sound resonated in the Chapel space. The overwhelming consensus between staff and students is that whenever possible moving forward, we will conduct our masses in the Chapel.
On Monday we held our annual Cross Country event and the weather finally turned it on for us! We thank Mrs Curulli for her excellent organisation and the smooth running of her first cross country. Every even run at MMPS requires time of reflection, consideration of feedback and possibilities to refine for improvement. We acknowledge the feedback received by staff and parents following the cross country, and changes have been made for 2022 to the PP-2 course.
100 Years of Education - Mary's Mount Newletter
To commemorate our 100th year, we have produced a Cententary newsletter for all our past students, families, staff and community. We invite you to have a read via the link below and please share the newsletter with anyone you think will be interested.
Centenary Mass - Thursday 17 June 2021
One of the highlights of our 100th year is a centenary mass that will be celebrated during Mary's Mount week on St Emilie de Viliar's Feast day. The mass will be held at St Mary's Cathedral at 10am and will be celebrated by Archbishop Timothy Costello. Our whole school will travel by bus to the cathedral on this day, and we will also be inviting the MMPS community, past students, staff and families to attend. You will find an invitation below with details on how to RSVP. We hope to see as many of our families there as possible.

This year our class (Year 6) will be receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation. We have been preparing for the Sacrament in class on a daily basis. Learning about souls, holiness, the promise Jesus made to his disciples and most importantly in our eyes, The Gifts of the Holy Spirit. We have given presentations on our chosen saints and would love for the school community to pray for us.
On Tuesday the 4th of May, we had our Confirmation retreat. The 24/7 Youth Ministry visited us. It was an amazing day with many games and spiritual activities. A big thank you to our parents for providing such a yummy recess and lunch.

Do you have a great idea that you'd like the P&F to consider coordinating or funding for our school? If so, join us at our next P&F Meeting on Wednesday 26th May from 1.30pm and let us know what you think. You can also pass your ideas or any feedback on to your Class Rep or email us. We're always open to new ideas and suggestions and your feedback on our initiatives is always valued. A copy of our last meeting minutes are attached to this newsletter.
We are pleased to announce that we will be partnering with the school to purchase a large shade sail that cover the entire playground area beside the oval. All funds raised from this year's Lapathon will go directly to the purchase of the shadesail, which will enable our children to play safely out of the sun all year round. It will also be a welcome addition to enhancing the main entrance to the school.
There are just two weeks until our Tuition Fee Raffle closes so grab your tickets now. Grandparents and other family members are also welcome to purchase tickets through the Trybooking website - www.trybooking.com/BQRKKP.
