CGES Black Bears Newsletter
Your Journey Starts Here - October 20
The Past Couple of Weeks!
Dear CGES Family,
I want to take a moment to discuss some of the highlights from the past couple of weeks. During this time, CGES faculty and students participated in the AHS Homecoming festivities, held a community event at Carrie Matthews recreation center, visited the Suzy Wiley Show, celebrated Accelerated Reader goals, and worked on our Blue Ribbon Schools application. We also had two of our teachers recognized by outside organizations for their hard work and dedication to students. Mrs. Vanessa Sivley won the Subaru Star Teacher Award and Mrs. Melody Hagood won WHNT's Tools for Teachers!!!
Hopefully, your child is coming home talking about their AR goals and challenges. I want to take a moment to stress the importance of having your child read every single night as part of their homework. For our younger students, this should be replaced with reading to your child every night. The development and improvement of reading skills correlates to increased academic success in all subject areas. I am very proud of the strides our students made during the first nine-weeks grading period, but we must now increase their goals and continue to challenge each of them as we move forward. Please contact me or your child's teacher if you need any assistance in this area. Thank you!
Go Black Bears!

Fall Festival!!!
National Blue Ribbon Schools Program
We would like to thank everyone that has already completed the parent survey as part of this process. Please consider completing your survey if you have not already done so. If you have misplaced the letter that came home with your student, then please contact your child's teacher or Mr. Christopher to get your unique code. This is the last week that surveys can be completed!
All responses will remain anonymous and will be compiled into one report. We will use this information to evaluate ourselves and make CGES even better! Thank you for your participation.
Accelerated Reader Program
All grades held a second-nine weeks "kick-off" assembly this past week to announce the new incentives for reaching your goal.
All students that reach the "Million Word Challenge" will be receiving a t-shirt from the district as well as an extra prize from Mr. Christopher!
Please follow CGES on Facebook for the most up-to-date information!
