6th Grade Painting & Tea With BritsBrand and the Morris Senior Center
Painting with an English Flare in Mrs. Sweet's Art Room
Earlier this week the sixth grade class had the opportunity to paint alongside some friends from the Morris Senior Center. A special thank you to Mrs. DeLello and Miss Deb from BritsBrand for hosting a fabulous enrichment and community opportunity. Mrs. DeLello baked delicious scones for all and served tea to our senior friends. Miss Deb, clad with her British accent and sense of humor, directed the Paint Along. As Miss Deb guided the painting process and proper care of tools and technique with materials, she prompted storytelling as the paintings took shape. The oral tradition of storytelling began with describing the background, then color and imagery, using descriptive language with adjectives, similes, and captivating vocabulary such as: peaceful, tranquil, and foreboding. What a great art and and English experience!
Three Universal Expectations
In accordance with our 2017-2018 JMS School Improvement Plan, I am meeting with all classrooms to discuss with students "three tips" (expectations) for contributing to improved school climate. These expectations, shown above, are presented as not only applicable to school but life in general.
All JMS staff will continue to model, reinforce, and review these tips with students on an ongoing basis. Parents and guardians can help support a strong school climate by extending these conversations at home with such questions and prompts as
- What is one way that you showed respect at school today?
- What is one way that you showed responsibility at school today?
- What are the expected behaviors on the bus? In the cafeteria?
Thank you for your continued support,
KC Chapman

Setting Goals
The middle of the school year is a great time for families to check in with students on goals. Setting academic and personal goals helps motivate, energize, and focus students, and it is a valuable skill that will benefit learners throughout their lives. Parents can help students set and achieve these goals. Click here for details on how to help your children set and meet their goals. (source: National Association of Elementary School Principals)
