Thank you for visiting our web-site. March brought some great things to Jefferson including (Dr. Seuss Celebrations, Character Education Cake Party, Academic Honor Society Donuts for Dedication, Corbin Maxey (reptile guy), Beatboxing, Idaho Theatre for Youth and the first ever full day kindergarten registration). We are excited to see our kindergarten students and are looking forward to showing them what a true neighborhood school is capable of doing for their child and their families. We continue to focus on our character traits this year choosing one a month and will start a methodical roll out of our “self help” Toolbox this last quarter and all next year. I am in need of someone who has great painting skills and who would be willing to paint the words associated with our character traits and Toolbox headings. More than an artist, I think I need someone with great handwriting. Please contact me if you are interested in this project.
The act of chasing joy is like chasing a frightened cat. The more we run after it, the more elusive it becomes. In contrast, the happiest times often pop up at the least expected times, often when we aren’t pursuing them.
According to most definitions, the term “serendipitous” refers to something positive discovered or experienced by chance.
How important is it that our children learn that true happiness and contentment are not found in the accumulation of material goods or exciting activities, but are often found in seemingly chance experiences when they struggle with boredom and experience fulfilling relationships?
We all might benefit from a little “unplugged” time with our kiddos. This can be challenging at first but eventually we start to remember things that we used to do with our grandparents like dominos and other board or card games. It is truly through these times just sitting, slowing down and talking that we are able to reconnect and rejuvenate.
While joy does seem serendipitous, we can up the odds of it by creating more times where we relate to each other without the distractions of technology or highly stimulating activities. What’s the tough part? It’s weathering the boredom storms and pleas from our children so we can experience the rainbows.

Boise Bike Project
Hello!
As spring-time approaches, good bike riding weather does too! Do you know kids in need of bicycles? Did you refer children to us for our Holiday Kids Bike Giveaway who might need bicycle repair assistance? Would your school or organization like to host a Mobile Repair?
Boise Bicycle Project is beginning our core youth programs for kids ages 4 through 11, and we welcome referrals from you, our community partners.
Our first Kids B.A.S.H. (Bicycle Skills and Safety Hour) is on Saturday, April 13th, from 9am to 11am! This is a essentially a mini Holiday Kids Bike Giveaway on the 2nd Saturday of the month, where about 40 kids (4-11) receive a free bicycle and safety education. To refer children to our monthly BASHes, please send the following to kids@boisebicycleproject.org:
- Child's first and last name
- Height in Inches (necessary)
- Age
- Favorite color/colors
- Family contact info (unless a language barrier makes you the best contact)
- Does the child know how to ride a bike without training wheels? Yes/no
As of right now, our first Mobile Repair is on Tuesday, April 23rd at 3pm at Taft Elementary. Kids are invited to bring their bikes for free repair and repair education. If you would like to schedule a Mobile Repair at your school or community center, please send me an email with a few dates that work for you on Wednesdays from 3 to 6 (or 4 to 7).
All of these programs are for kids ages 4 through 11, but we will have Youth Earn and Learn a Bike programs coming up in a few months for youth ages 12 through 18, so please feel free to refer older children in need of bicycles or interested in learning more about wrenching to us as well.
Keep an eye out on our newsletter and Facebook page for youth social rides throughout the spring and summer!
And as always we welcome volunteers with any of our youth programs and events!
Thank you to each of you for your continued support of BBP's youth programming (we couldn't do it without you), and for the work you are doing.
With pedal-powered energy,
