West Point El. Parent Update

Week of August 1, 2022

Dear West Point Families,

Welcome back! We hope you have enjoyed the summer break. Ms. Yoho and I are so excited to be at West Point Elementary with all of you this year. We know we have many families who are also new to West Point. We look forward to welcoming everyone and having a wonderful year together.

Our theme for the year is Better Together! Tied to this theme is the concept of drawing bigger circles. We want each student to feel valued and to know they are integral to our school's success. We are better together when we are working together to support each other in our goals of safety, belonging, and academic success.

Thank you for the many ways you support West Point Elementary. We know we are better together with the support we receive from all of you!

Important Information

Class Assignments

Class assignments will be finalized and posted on myDSD on Friday, August 12.

One important way to prepare your students for a successful year is to speak positively about their new teacher and classmates. If your student does not know the other children in the class very well, reassure your student that there will be many opportunities to form new friendships during the year as well as to keep old friendships during grade-level activities.

If you have a concern once class assignments are posted, you can call the office and ask to be put on a waiting list. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee the we can accommodate requests.

Kindergarten Testing

The regular kindergarten schedule begins Monday, August 29, which is the second week of school. The first week of school is for individual testing appointments. Please sign up your student for a testing appointment at Back to School Night.

Community Council

We are currently in the process of filling openings for this year's Community Council. We have four openings, and we would like to encourage you to consider serving!

The Community Council is made up of teachers, parents, and administration who meet once each month. The attached letter gives additional information about the duties of the council. A copy of the application is linked below. You can also pick up an application from the school office. Applications are due in the school office by Friday, August 26. If needed, we will hold elections Monday, August 29 - Thursday, September 1.

School Lunch

Meal prices for the 2022-2023 school year are as follows:

  • School lunch is $2.05. Reduced price is $.40.
  • Breakfast is $1.55. Reduced price is $.30.
  • Extra milk is $.50.
  • Adults may purchase lunch for $3.50 and breakfast for $2.10.

  • Monday, August 22: First Day of School! Early Out Schedule (no kindergarten classes)

  • Monday, August 22 - Friday, August 26: Individual kindergarten testing by appointment

  • Wednesday, August 31: PTA Meeting, 9:00 a.m.

  • Friday, August 26: Community Council applications due in the school office

  • Monday, August 29: Kindergarten students begin their regular schedule

  • Friday, September 2 - Friday, September 16: Wasatch Savings Book fundraiser, more information to come

  • Monday, September 5: Labor Day, no school
