Principal's Corner
Dear Parents/Guardians:
Welcome back! We have had a wonderful start to the school year.
First Day of School
There was a lot of excitement as students greeted their friends and teachers on the first day. On that day, Emerson followed a ‘mini’ schedule. The first 120 minutes of the day were spent in homerooms organizing their materials, understanding their team’s expectations and reviewing Emerson’s SOARS behavior matrix. Students were assigned their lockers, organized their assignment notebooks and received their Chromebooks.
Students then attended all their classes, where they listened to their teachers’ expectations, as well as reviewed summer materials. The second day of school, all students followed their full schedules.
I am happy to say that very few students lost their way in the hallway during passing periods and I was happy to welcome the students throughout the day. It is encouraging to see all of the students ready to get started with this new school year.
Then on Friday, the entire school gathered in the gymnasium for our annual Welcome Back Assembly. During this fun event, students were reminded of Emerson’s SOARS behavior expectations via a video. Students participated in various events including: hula-hoops, tug-of-war, and a football toss. Throughout the assembly, students received SOARS t-shirts. Many thanks to our PTO for providing us with these shirts.

Mrs. Samantha Alaimo has moved from Emerson’s Channels of Challenge program to Emerson’s new Associate Principal. She will be working closely with teachers on curriculum and instruction, as well as handling student discipline with Mr. Benka.

Visiting Emerson
Just a friendly reminder, all visitors to Emerson must have a valid state ID or driver’s license. These will be swiped and run through the Raptor identification system. This process only takes a short time to complete. Once you have clearance, a visitor pass will be printed and attached to a lanyard that you will be required to wear throughout the building. The office will hold your ID until you return to the office and return the lanyard that was given to you. We request that you please be patient with staff as we proceed with this district-mandated safety procedure.
Procedures for dropping off items for students
If you need to drop off items for your child at school, please bring the item(s) directly to the main office with your child’s name clearly written on the item. Your child will need to check in the office during passing periods to pick up these items. The office secretaries will not be calling into classrooms for students to pick up their items that you have dropped off. The constant interruptions have been taking away from classroom instruction.
