HOW CAN I SEE THE COUNSELOR?

STUDENTS

Students can see their counselor at the following times:

  • Before school
  • During their lunch
  • After school

**For an immediate personal need and/or responsive services, students may be seen right away.**


PARENTS

Parents can call the Counseling Office (210)397-2732 to set up an appointment.

OUR COMPREHENSIVE COUNSELING PROGRAM PROVIDES:


  • Individual Planning - Counselors meet one-on-one with students as they plan, monitor, and manage their own educational, career, and personal-social development.

  • Responsive Services - Counselors assist students whose immediate personal concerns or problems put their continued personal-social, career, and/or educational development at risk. These services can be provided through individual or small group counseling.

  • Guidance Curriculum - Guidance lessons are delivered in various classrooms throughout the year and are used to help students develop basic life skills.

  • System Support - Counselors provide services in other areas which indirectly benefit students, such as consulting with teachers and attending counseling staff development.

DECEMBER IN REVIEW

During the month of December, the Counseling Department provided the following services:


  • District Magnet School Fair
  • SEA Open House Nights
  • 11th Grade Guidance Lessons - Understanding PSAT results
  • Small Group Counseling sessions
  • Responsive Services for students in crisis
  • Tier 3 Support for Intervention

  • Assisted with STAAR EOC administration

DECEMBER STAAR EOC RESULTS

Results from the December STAAR EOC will be sent home with the report card for the 3rd 6 weeks.



Spring STAAR EOC testing dates:


  • English 1 - April 9th
  • English 2 - April 11th
  • Algebra 1 - May 6th
  • US History - May 8th
  • Biology - May 9th

NATIONAL SCHOOL COUNSELING WEEK IS FEBRUARY 4TH - FEBRUARY 8TH

COURSE SELECTIONS FOR THE 2019-2020 SCHOOL YEAR

It's almost time for students to pick their course selections for next school year!


During the months of January & February, all 9th-11th grade students will meet with their counselor to pick out their course selections.


There will be information nights regarding Advanced Academics, Endorsements and an Elective Fair to help students & families decide on their courses. (see flyers below)

MIDDLE SCHOOL COURSE SELECTIONS

  • JONES MS - January 29 & 30
  • RAYBURN MS - January 31 & February 1st
  • Our counselors will meet with current 8th graders in order to discuss endorsements, high school requirements, & course selections for next school year.

9TH GRADE CONFERENCES & COURSE SELECTIONS

  • JANUARY 28 - FEBRUARY 1
  • Counselors will meet with current 9th grade students in order to review 4 year graduation plans and course selections for next school year.

SENIOR CONFERENCES

  • FEBRUARY 4 - FEBRUARY 8
  • Counselors will meet with current seniors in order to review credits and plans for graduation.

11TH GRADE CONFERENCES & COURSE SELECTIONS

  • FEBRUARY 13 - FEBRUARY 22
  • Counselors will meet with current 9th grade students in order to review 4 year graduation plans and course selections for next school year.

10TH GRADE CONFERENCES & COURSE SELECTIONS

  • FEBRUARY 25 - MARCH 1
  • Counselors will meet with current 10th grade students in order to review 4 year graduation plans and course selections for next school year.

ASVAB

  • The ASVAB is provided on campus for JAY/SEA students.
  • We will have multiple sessions to take the ASVAB throughout the school year.

PSAT Score Interpretation & Guidance

Over the next few weeks, the counselors will be meeting with students to review their PSAT scores and assist students in planning for their future. Counselors will also introduce Khan Academy to students as a resource for studying for the next PSAT or SAT exam.

HOW TO VIEW PSAT SCORES:

  • Electronic score reports are available for students who took the PSAT in October.
  • Students may log in to their CollegeBoard accounts in order to view their scores.

  • The College & Career Center is a resource location designed to help our students and parents towards post-secondary success.
  • Among many services offered at the College & Career Center, students and/or parents are able to:

  1. Receive information and/or register for the SAT or ACT
  2. Obtain current information about colleges, scholarships, military, & the workforce.
  3. Work on college and scholarship applications
  4. Participate in visits from various post-secondary programs (i.e. colleges, technical schools, military)

San Antonio Education Partnership (SAEP)


  • The San Antonio Education Partnership (SAEP) works closely with students to assist in the college application process and providing information on various scholarships in order to help students earn a college degree.
  • A Success Advisor, Mozelle Moreno, is on campus from the SAEP who can assist students and parents on Thursdays in the College & Career Center (E104).
