Feathers for Families!
Purpose: To raise money for the Norcross Cooperative Ministry.
What is the Norcross Cooperative Ministry?
“Low income families in Norcross as well as the immediately surrounding region can receive emergency assistance from NCM. The faith based charity group provides everything from emergency financial aid for paying bills and rent to food and seasonal help, such as free Christmas assistance. The Norcross Cooperative Ministry uses donations from the community, and relies heavily on volunteers, to keep its programs operating year round.”
Description: Each teacher will be given a turkey body (everything minus the feathers) hanging in their doorway. Student Council will sell feathers for $1 each to students (*they designate which teacher they are buying the feather for when they purchase it) who will then take them to that teacher to be attached to the turkey body”.
When sales take place: 8:55AM – 9:10AM the week before Thanksgiving Break (Mon 11/18 through Fri 11/22)
Where: Sales will take place in the hallway inside the front door AND in the main hallway inside the bus doors.
How much: Feathers are $1 each (bills only, no coins, please!)
Prize: the single class with the most feathers will receive a Chick-Fil-A breakfast (chicken biscuits and juice) when we return from the Thanksgiving Break.
GOAL: $1,500

Reminder: Community Service and Action 2019-2020
The IB MYP focus on community service and action is meant to encourage and enable students to:
Generate creative new insights and develop deeper understandings of local and global issues
- Communicate effectively in a variety of situations
- Demonstrate responsible action through, or as a result of, learning
- Appreciate the process of learning in service to and for others and take pride in their accomplishments
At Pinckneyville, we want to expand classroom learning to the community and beyond. To do so, students are encouraged to identify areas where they can apply personal strengths to organizations or areas in need. Students should begin service and action hours and use the log in the front of the student agenda and log hours for the school year on the Pinckneyville Website! (10+ hours by May 1) Be sure to keep proof of service with signatures in your student's agenda book. There will be prizes and awards for top participants!

Attendance:
Being in school all day, every day, helps your child get the most out of middle school. Encourage good attendance with these ideas:
- Point out there's no substitute for being in class. Your child needs to be present to hear teachers explain concepts, to participate in group projects and class discussions, and to ask questions.
- Schedule doctor, dentist, and orthodontist appointments for before school or after school hours whenever possible.
- It will be easier for your child to get up on time for school if he has had at least nine hours of sleep.
- Set a reasonable bed time, and make sure they put away electronic devices so they aren't tempted to check messages or play games.
