Happy October! As I adore the beautiful scenery of Wausau, I am reminded how lucky I am to have joined the Wausau community with my family. At school, we have been a busy bunch this month as we celebrated a great start to the school year with an all school assembly "Drop Everything and Draw". It was a wonderful event filled with very inspiring art! We are looking forward to a presentation by the Raptor Education Group that will bring us some rehabilitated animals and share how animal culture follows many of our values as kind, proud Hawks at Hawthorn. Teachers have finished up their fall assessments and are working hard to assist all students in achieving high levels of learning in both math and literacy. We are so excited to watch them all blossom this year. As a reminder, teachers will be busy with professional development on 10/24 and 10/25 resulting in no school for students on these days. Also, watch for new online conference information to be coming home soon. Many schools in our district have already moved to online scheduling and families have been very pleased with the process. If you have any questions, please contact us at 715-261-0045. Thank you for your continued commitment to our school! We are BETTER TOGETHER!

Therapy available at Hawthorn Hills
Therapy available at Hawthorn Hills – Hailey Monk from The Centre for Well-Being:
Many children need extra support from time to time to deal with stress they experience at school and/or home. For children, if they are stressed, they may NOT tell you, but you can see it in their behavior: how they behave may change, how they talk, how they are doing in school, how
they play or behave with other children.
If you believe your child could use 1 to 1 time with a therapist trained in working with children, please call and speak to Megan Berger, school social worker. Therapy is confidential and is usually covered by insurance.
If you worry you may not be able to afford counseling, Megan will share with you who to call to see if you may be eligible for a sliding fee for your child.
Come and say hello to the new therapist at school! Hailey is originally from the Wausau area. She has spent the last two years coaching Wausau School District athletics at the middle and high school levels. Hailey has been working with kids in the behavioral health field for the past six years. She is very excited to come onboard the Hawthorn Hills team for the 2019-2020 school year. Go hawks!!
