Learning Lab Exploration
This is the mantra inspiring our students this month. Gratitude means feeling thankful and appreciative for what we already have. By multiplying what we are grateful for, we can multiply our happiness and well-being. In some ways, it's just common sense. Focus on the positive things in life and we end of feeling better. Gratitude isn't just being thankful for the big things in life, though. It's about learning to notice all the little things that happen that you can be happy about too! As the teaching team instills these thoughts into students we are engaged in writing workshop writing about and sketching what we are grateful for! As a part of the kindness curriculum, we have also started notes of encouragement to give to friends or even to ourselves such as I love you because, you are awesome because you are the best because. Through this project, we are encouraging students that it is important to be kind to others and ourselves.
Pumpkin Scientists have been busy in the pumpkin lab! As we develop emergent science skills students are being introduced to the scientific method, making predictions, observations and drawing a conclusion about what occured. Scientists learned that a reaction can be caused when two or more ingredients mix. They discovered that some reactions are calm like when you mix water and yeast but some reactions are active like when mixing yeast and hydrogen peroxide! Students will continue explorations next week with different ingredients.
The art studio has been reinspired with the artists Frida Kahlo and Salvador Dali. When teaching art appreciation it is important to find notable facts about the artists that students can relate to. This month Mr. Dali and Frida offer us many. Students are intrigued of course with Salvador Dali's mustache but also his uniqueness. Dali was a collector and one of the collections he has is ceramic cats (of course Zoey was over the moon with this fact). He also painted his dreams which allow students to use their already active imaginations when creating. While the art studio focused on Dali inspired self-portraits (Our students gained mustaches!!!!) playscape art offered a surrealist approach to masterpieces! "ARE YOU SERIOUS???" Frida is always a student favorite as they are drawn to her bright colors, and use of flowers. Frida dress up offered a creative and kinesthetic connection to the artist! Then we headed to the art studio to create Frida inspired self-portraits with vibrant paint colors and beautiful photographs of the cutest artists we know! In learning about each artist's biographies students discovered the uniqueness of each but also the hardships that each faced but persevered through! These artists are important for students to gain an understanding of their work and life as they have important roles at the end of the year school play performed by Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten students. Next week we look forward to 2 new projects inspired by these artists! One includes sweet Valentino!
I am Learning!
When I am at the workbench, I feel very grown up! I feel trusted. I am learning how to create something I have visualized in my head. When I work with a friend I have to cooperate and explain my ideas and plans. I am working on my fine motor skills and eye-hand coordination. I have to use math skills, such as shape, size, contrast, comparing, spatial relationships and problem-solving. I also get to be creative and use my imagination!

$350 per school year purchasing items off our school wish list for learning lab environments.
$350 donation per school year.
$350 spent in the school eco-friendly store per school year.
Donation to the end of the year school play.
If the parent chooses to do both shopping off of Amazon Wish List/School Store and other Volunteer items the total cost percentage would be deducted from the $350 total. Every approximate $30 spent equals 1 volunteer hour.
Example: Parent’s Amazon purchases for learning lab materials = $60 that parent receives 2 volunteer hours. The parent would have 10 volunteer hours left to complete for the school year

Volunteers and Donations:
***Looking for handyman to put together a patio storage bench for us! We will be using it for storage of all of our garden tools. Let us know if you can help.
We would love a volunteer to paint our wooden tables that were upcycled from electrical wire. Volunteer would paint with an outdoor paint that includes primer, lime green and aqua) as well as apply a clear coat!
Our adorable garden houses are in need of some repair. We would like to replace some parts with more sustainable materials. When designed and built by the company it seems that the wood was not sustainable enough for Florida weather especially the moisture. If you could help us with the repairs we are need of assistance as soon as possible. Also if you have ideas of what materials would be cost effective and also will hold up please reach out. The porch areas and the molding are the areas that need repair first. See photo below.

The History of Kindergarten
The original play-based, design education concept of Froebel Kindergarten was radically altered 100 years ago by John Dewey, G. Stanley Hall, and other educational leaders. Today, the remnants of Froebel's work can be seen in the offshoots it inspired: Montessori, Waldorf and Reggio Emilia. #ReggioEmiliaApproach #playbasedadvocates #letkidsbekids#classroomwithoutwalls #progressiveinnovativeschools #artsyschool#forestschool #Natureplaybasedschool
